Nah @ the 2nd part. I don't want to predict a loss. We got to go in thinking we can win, cause we can.

This is awesome! I just hope we play hard, and not intimidated, and we know we're talented enough to beat them, EASILY talent wise. We need to match their heart and intensity as a team and show them and the NBA we're not backing down. I'm not going to use the word respect because win or not we're not getting respect from sportswriters etc... although it'll send a HUGE message to the teams and NBA (all that REALLY matters) we'll always be underestimated and the dark horse in sports writer mind, see us being ranked lower than the clips... seems everyone forgets we took them to 7 and Portland wasn't even a challenge (ok a little) :p .... but whatever... anyway THEY (Lakers) know we're one of the few teams in the NBA that can beat them without it being a fluke and are just as good healthy (talent/matchups/intensity) we have to know it too... this should be a GREAT opening day, if we bring it. Sooo, LET'S BRING IT and show this damn league what the Rockets are all about!!

National TV on the first game, that would be great. I think that the rockets played LA into the game seven in two year ago and the possible return of Yao would support this rumor. It is AB time if this is really true.

I think the Rockets will go 2-2 in the season with LA, then beat them in the playoffs.

This would be a great sign for those of us that were worried that the Rockets would be shafted on nationally televised games again this season.

You're not a real rockets fan if you cheer for the Lakers, at any time. Even against the Heat.

This is good news that we are considered a legit part of a marquee matchup. Bodes well for our number of nationally televised games.

    OR

they figure the Rockets suck and the Lakers will easily steam roll them it would be embarrassing to lose on your home floor after the ring ceremony (see: miami heat) so they pick a team that isnt too bad (cant have the wolves opening against LA) but they wont consider that good either.

Honestly i think this is more the case they can say the Lakers will have beaten a solid team to show how strong they are their title defense, but its not like they are opening against the Mavs or Thunder or anyone like that.

Of course it will be great <s>if</s> when we beat them

great memory regarding the Kobe circumstances that off-season.

I was there as well and ran into some Rockets fans in the arena and stayed strong through the Laker comeback in the 4th.

a drunken Laker fan started heckling how Tracy was a girl's name. once the game was over I pointed out that they had a guy named Sasha on their team...

I was at the game the funny thing was that the difference in that game was a fluke basket that went off of Kwame Brown's shoulder off of Luke walton missed rebound. Tracy got credit for the basket being the closest Rockets player and he was near half court when it happened.

Rockets were 1-3 against the Lakers last year, though in the last game they were without Martin and Battier. And in the first game, a 1 point loss, Chase wasn't in the rotation yet.

Still...as great as it would be to open with a win at the Lakers, I'd rather it be:

    - a home game, if against the Lakers (I believe champs have opened on the road before), or

    - a game against the Wizards or some other scrub team. I'd rather the schedule be as balanced and easy as possible, generally.

Tickets go on sale in September right? For some reason I was thinking I bought tickets last year in the beginning of August.

Not that complex. I think this is simply because of Yao's return. Yao is one of biggest nba icons. The league earns a lot of money globally because of Yao. I believe the league hope Yao can return to his star form. They will continue to promote him.
