I think this is worse than anything that I remember people linked to in Bleacher Report. Kudos to the guy for recognizing that the Charlotte pick and Mirotic are the real enticement here, but Portland taking Boozer back in an Aldridge deal? Jeez... and who came up with the headline?

Portland aren't going to take a longer, ****tier contract for Aldridge unless it has a future all star attached to it. That's Chicago's problem, other than Rose and Noah, all their large contracts are crap.

Don't see it. Boozer would have negative value to Portland, and a 2016 pick is too far away to base any trade on...even a Charlotte 1st. Mirotic is a good player, but similar to Llull, there's no guarantee he ever comes over and plays up to his hype in the NBA.

    Maybe something like:

    HOU to CHI: Asik
CHI to HOU: Gibson, Hinrich, Mirotic

CHI to POR: Noah, Jimmy Butler, Bobcats 1st round pick (top 10 protected in 2014, top 8 in 2015, unprotected 2016)

POR to CHI: Aldridge, Wesley Matthews

So, at the cost of Asik, you get basically the PF version of Asik in Gibson (elite defender, so so on offense) plus a valuable prospect. I think Asik is worth more than Gibson because he's bigger and a better rebounder.

Chicago was said to refuse to give up Noah and Butler in a deal for Aldridge. But if they can get Asik back, giving up Noah is less of an issue since now you have a real center/rim protector to pair with Aldrige. Matthews can do probably what you want Butler to do except he's older and more expensive, but if Chicago is going for it all, he's not a bad role player to have. Now they get a legitimate go-to scoring option other than Rose.

If they are worried about the luxury tax, they can always amnesty Boozer.

Two key things from that page:

    1. 'This article was created on the Yahoo! Contributor Network, where users like you are published on Yahoo! every day.'

    2. 'Lucas Bowen is a professional second-guesser who specializes in the Chicago Bulls. After being spoiled with six NBA titles from MJ, Bowen has been eagerly awaiting the next chapter of Chicago excellence.'

I think that says it all. It's basically the equivalent of BleacherReport. Anyone can write for them and put out whatever garbage they want.

Why would we facilitate Aldridge to Chicago? You understand he's something that we want, and currently Chicago don't have the willingness to surrender the assets necessary for it?

The only reason we facilitated deals like that in the past was because we felt we couldn't keep the player (e.g. Chris Paul), now we're in a situation where we're essentially targeting 3 guys (Love, Aldridge, Horford) and we'd be able to sign 2 of them outright in 2015 when they become FA's at worst.

In the short term, we get slightly worse, slightly better medium term depending on what Mirotic does, screw up our 2015 flexibility, whilst Chicago gets significantly better.

Chicago thought Gibson was more valuable than Asik, they couldn't have been more wrong, allowing them to unwind that for the cost of a guy we don't even know if he'll even come to the nba (another sergio llull....yawn) and a 32 yo backup pg ?

There's this almost bizarre desire amongst the fanbase to throw Asik away for nothing, I know where it's coming from, but when broken down it's really bizarre. It's the belief that because we now have Dwight, Omer is less valuable. Why is this true? If you acquired a $5b company, would it make the value of your other $2b less? would you somehow turn around and sell that company for less?

The gist seems to be we should take a downgrade for slightly more synergy, however the type of synergy people are talking about is basically replaceable with cheap free agents. Underpaid top defensive centers are rare, so rare in fact there's only 2 others in the league and they're both on rookie deals (Sanders and Drummond, and you'd need to pry them from the corpses of their team's front offices), meanwhile backup power forwards are everywhere, there's a reason why the more experienced and older Gibson got barely 17 mpg in the playoffs on the most crippled team I've ever beholden, whilst Asik couldn't play any more minutes than physically possible on a team with a better record in a harder conference.....

Asik's fair market value is about $12m (half way between Tyson Chandler and Tiago Splitter), that's also the fair market value of Serge Ibaka, and that alone should demonstrate the vast difference in value given to "defensive center" and everything else.

Does Morey really have Aldridge as a top target or does he have someone else, like Kevin Love, in mind for that "third star" slot?

If you don't love Aldridge, who is going to realistically cost more to get than Houston has to offer anyway, then who cares if he gets to Chicago and why not increase your asset pool in the meantime.

As for whether Mirotic comes to the NBA-- I assume that Morey would make sure of his intentions and contract situation before taking him. If not him, then perhaps ask for another asset like that Charlotte pick.

Gibson is currently really underrated. Asik's stock rose because he got a starting job and minutes. Gibson stayed a bench player and plays 20mpg still-- partly because they kind of had to have Boozer out there given Rose is out. Gibson would be viewed as a much more valuable asset if he goes to a team that needs him as a starter.

My guess is Aldridge (Doc Rocket mentioned his name several times so I'd guess so), or Love, but either way, our salary situation is such that we can sign them outright if no one trades for them. Love would probably take more assets than any team is willing to give up that could actually keep him.

Gibson is under rated because he's never shown anything to justify his contract, same as Asik was basically untradeable when Morey first signed him to that contract, Gibson is also 28, so it's not like the "he's still young and will grow" thing comes in, Asik is 27 as of 6 days ago btw.

The flip side of what you're saying is why won't Chicago give us Noah for Asik, Jones and Beverley, so we can then flip him with Dmo and a first for Aldridge, that's why trading a $1 for 3 quarters is stupid. (Behold OKC, the creators of the Harden/Howard combo)

What's with posting random fan trade scenarios? I thought there might be something funny here, but really it's just a stupid trade. It's like one of those Lin+stuff for Rondo trades in GARM.

Yeah, Doc Rocket has mentioned Aldridge but never love. Makes sense. Aldridge is more likely obtainable because he's older and Portland can actually use Asik(Minnesota has Pekovic). I think the key is for Portland to be more or less failing, similar to last year's record, towards the trade deadline. If by that time the Rockets have DMo or Jones playing well, we may see one of them, Asik, and future picks being traded for Aldridge.

So basically Bulls swallowed the poison pill we made for them after seeing Asik shined and helped us into a position getting Howard? good stuff.

Go to the 1:20:00 mark of this interview, done on Jan 30, 2013 with Daryl Morey, Dan LeBatard and Stan Van Gundy:

Earlier in the interview, Morey had refused to answer who he thought was the most underrated non-Rocket in the NBA due to the risk of a fine. LeBatard mentioned that he thought Chicago choosing to sign Gibson and not Asik was a "bad move" and Morey replied that he thought Gibson was an excellent player as well. SVG then jokingly warned him about being fined.

    http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/e/9/8/e98...73456664&hwt=dcb5f09da5945328c0b607a520bb7018

So at least Morey thinks Gibson has shown something

Why won't Chicago give us Noah so we can trade for Aldridge? Maybe because if they have what it takes to get Aldridge and they love Aldridge (who is frankly more useful to the Bulls than he is to the Rockets since they desperately need a 2nd guy to create offense), they should just get Aldridge for themselves, instead of trading for a player less valuable than Noah, a backup PG and a prospect who has a decent chance of not panning out.

Asik is good, but Noah is just more valuable-- more versatile, better shooter and passer.

    .

I think the difference is that Chicago wouldn't get the poison pill effect if they are to trade for Asik as opposed to if they had matched the offer initially. The cap hit would be the flat $8.374M per year just like it is for the Rockets. Had they matched, it would have been $5M, $5M, $15M.

Extrapolating to the moon and back are we? that's just a politically correct answer, whereas we know he's been after Asik for years (Courtney Lee?). What do you think he would say? what they did was stupid? he still says OKC got a great deal.....

I didn't say he wasn't, that's why I said, Asik, Jones and Beverley for him, ie we're trading an inferior player and some fringe pieces for a better talent, much like trading Gibson, Mirotic and Hinrich for Asik, and the gap from Asik to Gibson is a lot larger than the gap from Noah to Asik. If all 3 were on the open market right now, what do you think they would each get? I'd go with 13-14, 11-12, 5-6, but maybe that's just me. Noah has also missed 70 games in the last 4 years, Asik has missed 0 in the last 3.

No they don't, Portland want Noah, Chicago don't want to give up Noah, you are suggesting giving up a replacement (who scores more points and gets more rebounds per 36....) than Noah so they can then give up Noah, btw Chicago are a lot more for Love than Aldridge for their team, at least he's been the guy that Chicago's sources have always linked to.
