Horrible overkill? Beijing did a great presentation for representing their cultures and history. Stop with the hating. Anyhoo Canada did a good job so far with their own representation for our short and not that interesting history. Great job on the whales scene. Guessed they follow China by using the lights technique.
It was a boring, seemingly neverending overkill and a waste of a lot of money. Even the one here in Vancouver is becoming too long, perhaps in response to that overkill in Beijing. I'm not sure if host countries were overextending themselves like this prior to Beijing. If so, my point is roughly the same. Regardless, to each his own and your comment about Canadian history would probably be fairly insulting to some Canadians, even if it's true and you're from Canada. I'm going to take a wild guess that you are of Asian descent.
