he probably never bothered looking but i'm sure it's still not good enough...she deserves at least 75%
Usually when there is this much hype surrounding one athlete (Queen Yu-Na), I end up dissapointed. Not the case this time. This girl is amazing. That Mao girl was pretty amazing too, if it weren't for a few blemishes in her program she probably would have scored as high as Yu-Na.
Mao Amada was wonderful, I agree. Quite a feat with the three triple axels in one Olympics! She looked do disappointed to not have earned the gold and there was tremendous pressure on her, no doubt, but Yu-Na Kim definitely deserved it. Was also very happy for the Canadian. Our Americans did pretty well also! #4 is very respectable for a 16yo.
That's just some bad luck for Ohno. Not a lot of contact, not a lot of pressure. I think the Canadian would have gone down anyway.
It's not alot, but the hand was there, the skater did go down, and most importantly, Ohno tried to make a move when there was no move to be made.
I don't understand how short track is a sport. It's more luck than athleticism. If you start on the outside, you're praying someone in front of you messes up. If you start on the inside, you should get the lead and if you protect the inside, you should not lose. Ohno had to create contact at the end. He had no other chance.
Well, like I said, I think the Canadian skater goes down even if Ohno doesn't touch him. And to top it off, the Korean fell on his own too so if Ohno hadn't put his hand up, he could have very well gotten silver anyway. But hindsight is 20/20.
So, based on what I just watched, it seems the smart strategy is to fall if anyone touches you. It certainly didn't seem like Ohno pushed him, but by falling he got him DQ'd. Seems easy enough: Four racers --> fall down if someone touches you --> other person DQ --> automatic medal!! I don't watch any ice skating outside of the occasional olympic viewing, but does stuff like this happen alot? I'd be pissed if I was Ohno. Especially after it seems like the Korean made a much more dangerous move in grabbing Hamelin's skate.
Well, Ohno likes to skate from behind and make a move towards the end. He never tries to take the outright lead off the start. He may not want to be 4th or 5th, but he's doesn't want to be 1st as the start of the race.
Well no, Ohno could have blazed by them like he was doing in the other races, he's was in last place for the whole race and still trailing around the very last turn. I'm a big fan of Ohno, but those other dudes were kicking his ass.
Oh I completely agree that he probably didn't deserve a medal, it just seems interesting that he gets disqualified for having his hand on a guy, then the guy falling down. (Again, I don't watch ice skating, so I have no idea if this is a common thing. And if it is, then that's a shame, IMO.)
What's really interesting is that Ohno gets disqualified for touching the Canadian, who then fell. But Hamlen touches the South Korean, who then falls, but Hamlen still gets the Gold. Hamlen's touch seemed more of a cause for the Korean's fall than Ohno's, but he doesn't get disqualified? I think Ohno may have been on to something in suggesting they benefited from some home cooking, since the judge was Canadian.
Canada hockey kind of got a scare there at the end. Not quite as dominant as they had been in previous games. Anway, Canada vs USA: The Rematch is on.
