i've never seen tanith belbin before, but that look she gave agosto at the end of their dance could've turned johnny weir straight*. i'm a fan. *almost
Anyone watching this Denmark vs Canada womens curling match? Some of these girls are pretty hot, especially that brunette milf for Canada
Yes, Johnny "QWeir" was the basis for Jon Heder's costume in Blades of Glory. He did wear a bird head on one of his 2006 Olympic costumes. He's always been like this but has been working hard lately to show everybody exactly, ummm, flamboyant he is. He probably deserved an Olympic bronze medal (I couldn't stand Plushenko) but was in 6th, probably docked for unofficial obnoxiousness points. I think he quit trying to win competitions and decided to use this opportunity to try and market his personality while he had the spotlight... and finally relaxed enough to skate his best ever. He had better not give an interview coming out of the closet, because it shouldn't count if the closet door has been open and the walls are transparent.
And they're great at cleaning the floor. That's a great combination! All kidding aside, I actually find curling one of the most entertaining events. BTW, the one you're talking about reminds me a little of Renee from 24.
Yea I was watching it and realized its pretty much shuffleboard..which is pretty sweet to play at bars
I still haven't figured out the scoring system in curling. The only thing that got me into it was seeing Shuster fail over and over again. I wanted him to redeem himself after his first fail... and his second fail... and his third fail... right before his fourth fail, I didn't care anymore and expected him to fail. Then, he got benched and Team USA won a game. Go figure. lulz
The scoring is super simple. For every stone you have closer to the center than your opponent's stone that is closest to the center, you get a point. The little rings have nothing to do with points or being worth X amount.
Man, that's simple. I had figured out that you want to get as close as possible to the center. How come there are ends where no points are awarded then? Or am I mistaken? I thought I saw the score stay the same going from one end to the next on a few occasions. It seems like there will always be one stone closer to the center than another, esp. since they use that tool to measure distances. Also, what are those broom-like sticks the players are rubbing vigorously on the ice? What effect do they have?
Well, you do have to be somewhere on the target to score. Whoever throws the last stone in an end is said to have the "hammer". Whichever team scores in an end, the other team gets the hammer in the next end. Teams want to score at least 2 points when they have the hammer, so if it looks like that won't happen and they have the chance to make sure nobody scores, they go that route. Those "broom-like sticks" are called brooms. They've been adapted specifically for curling but at one point, they used actual brooms. Sweeping the ice make the stones travel farther. I think the friction from sweeping melts the ice a little and that allows less friction for the stone. It can also affect how far down the ice the stone starts to curl. If you sweep, the stone will break further down the ice than if you didn't sweep at all.
Got it, thanks. This will make any additional matches I watch more entertaining as long as Shuster isn't around to shuster things up. One other question regarding the scoring. If a team is only awarded points for every stone closer to the center than their opponent's stone that is closest to the center, how can both teams earn points in one end? It seems impossible for both teams to score if that is how points are determined and I seem to recall seeing ends where the score was 2-1 and the such.
