It is a widely known fact that Playstation Network is a much worse online experience than Xbox Live. Sony would be wise to make that a big focus of improvement.
Well for starters, PSN would have to do a lot more than just match Xbox 360's performance because I'm assuming the new Xbox will have an even better online experience than the 360 (and this is where Microsoft usually excels). If they integrate somewhat of Windows with the apps that are being launched, then it's going to be tough for PSN to match that. The chat system itself is a perfect example. Skype being integrated with Xbox Live parties is pretty awesome. You can chat from your computer into an XBL party. Of course right now there isn't any information, but I haven't seen anything from PSN either. Anything's possible, I just expect Microsoft to raise it up a notch further from what it had on Xbox 360 meanwhile I expect PSN will improve from what it had on PS3. There will be pro's and con's for each, as there always have been.
And that bolded part is really my point in its entirety. That's all I'm really saying, that positions like "I WILL get a 720 because XBL > PSN" mystify me, since no one but Microsoft knows anything for certain about the features of the next Xbox at this stage. Just because I've gotten more use out of my PS3 this gen, doesn't mean I've automatically decided I'm going to get a PS4 before knowing anything about the next Xbox. In fact, nothing that's been said about the PS4 makes me think I'll want to buy it anywhere near launch.
There's nothing "for sure" about anything in this thread. It's all speculation until things are announced. I expect XBL to be even better than it already is with the announcement, while I expect PSN to improve (but not match what 720 will have). Of course when everything is announced in full detail from both sides, that's when I'll really decide which console to go with. Right now I'm just going based on what I'm expecting.
