samfisher is completely right, the argument that ps2 has this huge library over x-box is played out. obviously there are more games in existance for ps2 but as for whats currently produced and coming in the future you certainly won't be running out of titles to play. as for sports titles and multi-sytem games the consensus is almost always that the x-box version is the best.

id keep your gamecube too unless you have to get the 60 or 70 dollars you'll get for it on ebay for your x-box. ;) it's not a bad system and i think metroid 2 comes out in the fall or something.

    GTA San Andreas!

I can't wait till it comes out! I love the GTA series. It's the only thing I play on the PS2.

You're right. I took that link from another forum where they discussed the PS2 being used by NASA. This was one of the links, but obviously, it isn't NASA. I didn't really even really read the article that well as seen by my mistake. I did read that NASA is already using modified PS2's and they said something like pound for pound, the PS2 is the most powerful computer available due to the ease of scallability. But this came from a forum with no link, and since I don't have one, I guess this will just have to be believed. Considering the mistake I just made, I hope people won't take my word with a grain of salt. :)

I assume that NASA does use computers from the NCSA though.

Funny you mentioned that. I'm in the process of building a new machine just for those 2 games. I think I may just sell my Gamecube and put the money towards my new system instead of buying another console.

I got a PS2 the day it came out. I brought an X-Box a couple of months ago because I had a bit of money to spare and wanted Halo.

I would say right now that if you wanted a system with a heap of good games that are cheap, buy the PS2.

If you want a system with just a handfull of good games, buy an X-Box.

At the end of the day there isnt a massive difference between the two. Its all about how good the games are.

Xbox is better in every possible way. There shouldn't even be debate about this. Xbox has better graphics - no, they do. You can compare screenshots of the same game on each system and Xbox will clearly be better if it's not a direct port. Xbox has better sound. XBOX HAS LIVE. Live is the most innovative invention in gaming. It is set up perfectly. Xbox isn't lacking in amount of games anymore because it's not new. Xbox has GTA now, too. Don't even think about PS2 or GC unless you got money to blow.

I haven't seen anybody mention that XBOX also already comes with memory available to save games on. That's another plus! XBOX!!!

I got both, the graphics on the X Box are better but it heats up really fast. The PS2 doesn't heat up even after playing for hours, but the graphics are not as good as the ones on the X Box.

Say this a month ago, and I would not have a problem with it. But I actually have learned more about the hardware of the PS2 and XBOX, and the PS2, for the most part, is the more powerful of the two. In terms of GFLOPS, I think the PS2 has like 6. something while the XBOX only has like 2.8. And the reason most multi-platform games look better on the XBOX is that those developers don't make the games so that they use the PS2 to its full potential, which is partly the developers fault and partly Sony's fault for making it difficult to program. However, MGS 2, I believe, looked and played awesome on the PS2, but when put on the XBOX, it did really play the same way. Mostly because that game wasn't really made for the XBOX.

Look at games like GT4, FF 12, MGS:Snake Eater, and Silent Hill 4 to really see how the PS2 looks. Even these games, which look beautiful, don't quite use all of the power, I think. (I think GT4 still leaves like %15 or so for improvement.)

This was a big deal before Sony released their HD. But now, I think it isn't. I think the XBOXs on sale now have like 6 GB of space, while the PS2 HDD has like 40. Now they just need games to take advantage of it.

"The Xbox has 80 Gigaflops of computing power. That's equivalent to the power found in a Cray C94 supercomputer."

    http://www.nvidia.com/page/console.html

I don't know how accurate it is but it is coming from nvidia so I think its pretty good but it seems hard to belive

The Xbox has 8GB of HD space, and while PS2 does have a 40GB hard drive barely any games use it and I'm not sure if any of the older games will use it. The xbox use to come with 10GB but I guess they decided to downsize to 8 recently.

Yeah, nvidia does their scale differently. They count EVERYTHING when doing this. Some people call it nvidia flops or something like that.

I may try to find an article that shows this though.

Here's an article that explains Nvidia's "80 GFLOPS" statement.

Thanks for the correction on the HD. I wasn't sure if it was 10 to 8 or 8 to 6, I just remembered that they went down. I'm guessing it was a economical decision. Not really sure what to expect for the HD. I think it does speed up loading times and other things, but if games could take adavatage of it, it would be very nice.

I just recently bought a game cube and definitely kind of regret it because of the much narrower selection of games. But I'm also a gamer from childhood and do have some emotional attachment to nostalgic titles. While I'm mad that I can't play FF series on GC (though the exclusive license is said to have runned out and they did make crystal keep for it),

the other exclusive titles that I really really like

    Mario series
    Zelda series
    Metroid series and
    Resident evil series

will keep me from dumping my GC anytime soon. Also it does have the best controller of all three system.

Still my overall rankings for systems are like this

    PS2
    GC
    XBox

because recently, with the exception of Grandtheft Auto (which actually has pc roots), American companies just can't make a console game that appeals to me.
