I got Red Dead Revolver, Knights of the Old Republic, and Pandora Tomorrow last night. I think my video game collection is complete until I get the new Halo and along with it, X Box Live. Red Dead is awesome. Actually has a fairly fun story line. Characters are the classic over the top Western, i.e. The Quick and the Dead. For a shooter that uses a controller instead of a light gun, it has pretty good targeting. Especially cool is a feature called "Dead-Eye" in which you can seemingly slow down time (like Max Payne) and lock in multiple targets before you start blasting away. There is also a multiple move gun fighting engine; two moves to draw, another to lock in, another to fire. Very entertaining so far. KOTOR is an RPG with dialog that reminds me a lot of the old "Choose your own adventure" books I used to read as a kid. (To run, turn to page 25, to fight the giant spider, turn to page 37.) Acquiring stuff to complete tasks to raise your skill level, etc. etc. The beginning is a bit tedious, the fighting is classic RPG complete with "rolling dice". I've heard it gets much better later in the game. One thing is for sure, this one is deep and will take a long damn time to get through. Pandora: Sam Fisher. What can I say? Would you believe the graphics are much better this time? Hard to believe, and the enemies seem to be smarter. On the first Splinter Cell I got through the first three or four levels without blinking an eye. On this one I had to continue several times in the first mission! Maybe I'm just getting old like Sam is... This one is going to be difficult to put down.
Have you seen the Splinter Cell 3 videos from E3? They were taken from the PC version, but they make the graphics in Splinter Cell 2 look like crap. Awesome textures, models, and environments. Using a knife to cut through plastic, grabbing guys from below and throwing them over cliffs, grabbing guys through paper walls, bashing doors open to knock people on the other side over, etc. Looks cool
LOL about the choose your own adventure stuff man... haha... I actually remember a book with those exact commands, but I guess giant spiders are in most of those books. Sometimes you meet the girl of your dreams, and sometimes life slips away from you as you lay helpless on the floor. haha. Pandora tomorrow is pretty fun. I guess the AI isn't like super realistic though. There's this part where you have to save someone, and you sneak up on two guys accosting him, so you can grab the guy in the back closest to you and hold him hostage style right? And then the other guy immediately grabs your man, and makes it a hostage show down situation. that, I thought, was really realistic. But then if you knock down your hostage, he won't kill his, and you can just walk up and knock him out. I'm not sure that would happen in real life. Although... I'm not sure that was the best way to do it anyway. The cool thing about the game I guess is the multiple ways to complete each mission.
