the true next step in gaming will be when neurodevices have been created that allow for true input with brainwaves biotech in gaming
I haven't really checked out this leak (possibly a fake, or if true, possibly outdated). Some things seem a little odd to me (throwing in 3 3GHz PPC cores, just for BC). Guess it could all be "plans" rather than the actual route they end up taking though. Kind of interesting to see consoles contemplating x86 chips too. I know some people think it might be too early for a new console, but sales are pretty pathetic right now. May's numbers were brutal (both for hardware and software). Not sure how much longer they can drag this out. I guess MS could want to end the generation before Sony overtakes them, although maybe not a huge deal (though if/when it happens, I'm sure "We have a new box out now, why do 360/PS3 matter?" could do well....or "Look at profits" too, although not sure if either division has done too well this generation).
Yup... everything's converging into one device. Apple's creation of iOS and App Store was either a very forward looking move or they just got lucky but it was a great, great move. On the other hand, Nintendo's not gonna make it. The Wii U is backwards. The processing is limited to one device and the display to two Wii U controllers. Microsoft can captilize on the processing power of both the Nextbox and phones/tablets. Sony can do it now if they weren't so incompetent, with PS Vita and the PS3... in fact, it's a major advantage since Vita has controls spec. for gaming.
I finally got around to checking out more of the leaked info. One interesting thing is the launch of a "low-cost" Xbox 360 (Xbox 361) that is/was scheduled for this year. Think it is related to their "XTV" efforts (think they need to tweak/add to the 360 hardware for it to support everything they want). It would be interesting to see if this ends up happening. Might be a good way to get a desperately needed sales bump too, at least until the 720 is ready to be released.
Both did, and 360 and PS3 have already done it (although they haven't bothered renaming their SKUs). 361 would be taking the idea a bit further it seems (possibly more features, just not a cheaper/smaller model). Or I got that impression anyway.
I still have a PS2 and it's sole purpose is as a dvd player for the kids. I play the occasional Madden 07 game on it. I've been considering finally upgrading one of these days. Seems like I should wait, though, until the next generation comes out.
Wait until next generation comes out to get a next-generation console (720/PS4)? Or just wait that long because the 360/PS3 will get price cuts by that point? 360/PS3 definitely need some price cuts, which is why I thought the redesign info was interesting. A redesign that would allow for a low cost system would really help out IMO. Throwing in some "XTV" features would be icing on the cake.
