Common misconception. To both parts of the post. Apparently it's not just an issue of heating that causes rrod. Hope these new slim ones have finally fixed the issue.
Hey man, you always give good advice... I have a launch that has not given me RROD or any problems yet. Do you think I should trade it in to Gamestop and pick up the slim one. I already have a wifi adapter, but I really want more hard drive space. Or should I keep my current set up and just buy a bigger hard drive?
I would definitely do the trade in. You could buy the 250gb hard drive for $130. Or take that same $130 plus your old hardware and get a brand new system. Pretty amazing that your launch 360 still works, but it will die eventually.
Yeah, I did the math and after the trade-in it comes up to about $90 for the slim. That's a great deal for an obsolete 360! I am giving up 2 white controllers, but will eventually pick up another black one to match the set whenever it goes on sale. So just add another 35-40 bucks to that price. Still a good deal.
As I understand it, the heating causes the soddering around the GPU to lose contact.....so it is a factor, as I understand it. DD
well if they are giving you a $100 credit at gamestop should do it. no RROD and you have an original? wow. that's amazing. I still have a 20 gig!
Per my receipt: 18.33 - Dante's Inferno (played it once, will never play it again) 5.84 - Call of Duty 2 (Didn't even know I had it) 6.33 - Viva Pinata (I don't need to explain why I'm selling it) 100 - Xbox System (I still can't believe this value after 4 years) 5 - Headset Wired 40 - Network Adapter 30 - 20 GB HDD 25 - Xbox Controller (I could've kept this but I wanted to get a black one) ____ 230.50 - Used Trade Total (299.99) - Xbox Slim ____ (69.49) - Taxable Total (5.73) - Tax _____ (75.22) - Total Paid Not bad at all! It's also cheaper than the pair of ASICS I bought earlier this morning. And I finally have more hard drive space!
I have an older model xbox 360 purchased on October 2007 and have yet to get the infamous RROD. Runs like a champ. The only thing I've had to replace is the power brick. Take care of your consoles by not letting them overheat. I heard that's the number one cause of RROD. I play mine about 8-10 hours a week and no more than 2 hours in one session. Btw, red dead redemption rules.
MY Xbox 360 just broke. It was only one flashing red light and E73 message. But it still needs to go in for repair apparently. That will be over $100. Should I just get a newer Xbox? I could get one with Kinect, but It will be August before I'm able to do that. It will take about that long for the repair apparently, but the repair is cheaper. It's just that if it happens again, then I have to pay for repair again. The New xbox would come with a warranty. I'm really bummed. This was horrible timing.
Yeah, probably the smartest option. I just wish I could get it today rather than wait, but it will be a lesson in patience. Thanks for the advice. Is there anyway to transfer my saves from the existing 360 HD to my new xbox HD?
Use an empty USB stick and format it on your xbox(go to USB device on your xbox menu->configure now). Note, this will delete all data on the stick, so really make sure it's empty. You can then copy all necessary save files to your usb(go to the save file in the menu, then you'll see the option).
That is the easy choice if you don't have one of the newer models (new warranty, bigger hard drives, built-in Wifi, etc). Yes, what he said.
Is there a way to do that without my xbox working, though? I was just using the built in HD on my xbox, I think 20 gigs. If I pull out the HD bay on my current xbox can I connect it to the newer model xbox? Then I could maybe stick the USB flashdrive in there. Would that work? Sorry for asking all these questions and my lack of technical expertise.
