God of War is noob friendly, just like Modern Warfare 2. But if you are looking for some challenge, you can definitely find it in this game. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0BoHu8FTyxk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0BoHu8FTyxk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Though they are both action games, they are both pretty different. I would recommend God of War to some of my friends, but not Devil May Cry.
God of War is far from noob friendly if you're playing it on the hardest two modes. The reasons I like it as well are the story, the graphics and just how fluid the gameplay is. Its the first game since FFVII that really felt epic to me.
Why the assumption that they should match? Not exactly the same situations for each. That's part of it. Marketing is also part of it (until recently, Sony's marketing has been terrible). Timing, or maybe specifically the availability of games on the marketplace is part of it (is there only one good FPS game available, or 10?). Backwards compatibility is part of it. Lots of factors go into determining sales of consoles and games. Including quality of course. Though as sales of games like Demon's Souls, Tales of Vesperia, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Valkyria Chronicles, etc., have shown, it definitely isn't enough to sell 1M+. Or that it is even needed at all, as sales of Saints Row, Madden 07, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, etc., have shown (some of these even sold 2M+). And I'd be extremely happy if The Last Guardian somehow sold 1M+ (don't think Ico or SOTC did...maybe not even combined). And they wouldn't even have to do it. Could just give it to Atlus, Ignition, or some other publisher. Guess it would be a bit of a disgrace to give away you IP...but then again, they obviously don't think much of the IP. Sega somehow bothered to bring over Yakuza, so not sure why Namco couldn't bring over Tales of Vesperia. Of course, Sega also decided to put out Yakuza and Resonance of Fate during the same time as Final Fantasy, so they're not exactly that smart either. And they wonder why their IPs don't light up the charts. Agreed. Also disappointed in the lack of any good horror games. Silent Hill, a one-time favorite of mine, is basically a dead franchise. Used to be some other decent ones too. Not so many anymore, especially with RE focusing a bit more on action (also sounds like Dead Space 2 will be more action-oriented IIRC?). A shame since HD, better lighting, better sound, etc., would make for some awesome experiences in the horror genre. I'm still holding out hope on whatever Atlus has planned. The few tidbits of info about a new Persona/SMT game are driving me crazy. Just finished Digital Devil Saga 1 recently, so I still got DDS2 to finish. But after that, I'll start having SMT withdrawals. Think I saw something about Atlus licensing the PhyreEngine* the other day. Though there is a PSP version of the engine...so might just mean more SMT PSP games. *PhyreEngine is a game engine made by Sony. Though before anyone gets any ideas, it is cross platform (devs can, and have, used it for games on other consoles). Was hoping they'd bring it over, but I'll probably just put it on the list of 360 games to try whenever I finally decide to get one (need to get around to checking out Fable, Gears, various JRPGs, and maybe a few others). Got a huge backlog right now though, so might be a while. Really hard to make any progress on you backlog when you're playing JRPGs that take 60+ hours to beat. Maybe those 6 hour games have their advantages... I can see that. In fact, I think it is definitely "worse" if you look at it that way (basically examine the gameplay mechanics of GoW vs DMC/NG/etc.). A bit weaker there. The "Epicness" of God of War also helps. Yeah, a bit of a buzzword, but easy to play the game and stare in awe of what is going on. Also helps that I love Greek Mythology. Throw in some great production values, excellent graphics, decent characters/story (though I guess that could be up to debate), Kevin Sorbo and Rip Torn cameos, etc., and I don't think it would be too surprising to see why some people like it. So what if Infinity Ward/Respawn made Call of Duty: Ancient Warfare? No guns, but still a FPS with similar mechanics. Maybe use some arrows...or magic. Ride a dragon and "bomb" enemies on the ground. Hmm...that sounds pretty awesome actually. Respawn better be working on something like that. I'd also accept Future Warefare. I'm half-joking, but I'm actually interested in seeing what those guys could do with a new IP. Kind of tired of WW2/Modern Warefare FPS games. Poor Project Offset.
I think the most natural first step would be into future warfare, not space wars or anything, but maybe the near future, it would be similar to the step they made into modern warfare. They could also take a shot at zombies
I'm vaguely embarrassed to admit I've logged about 175 hours on Bad Company 2 multiplayer (between 2 profiles). That's definitely dug into my time for other games. Only other games I've found time for are Armored Core: For Answer (late to the party there), and just a bit of FIFA World Cup & Super Street Fighter 4 right after they were released. I've even shelved my final "for real" play-through of Mass Effect (for the sake of import to ME2) for like the last 2 months. And for every GREAT game like Mass Effect I feel obligated to finish, there are stupid little obscure titles that tip my fancy and distract me from doing so... I've been itching to give Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle a try, for example. Want to dig into Trine a bit. Even bought The Void to try out. And god knows Heavy Rain is begging to be played as well, plus Batman and the latest Ratchet & Clank... and then there are the ever-present games I wish to re-play, like Fallout 3 and FFX. So many games, so little time... The setting is awesome, I give it that. All bells and whistles in it are cool, it's just that core gameplay that bothers me. There generally seems to be only one way to dismember each type of enemy, and combos are not varied enough and too easy to pull off. I just feel like there are many more ways to approach combat in Devil May Cry. They should work that into the next Uncharted game.
I've never understood why people play their games on the PC. I've always hated playing games on my computer
Ok, so, rather than dig up the old thread, or start a new one, I just wanted to check in with people who are playing Demon's Souls.. This game is so strangely addictive.. I wonder sometimes if even the makers of it really knew what kind of a monster they were creating. I have brought several different characters up to the cusp of going ahead and beating the 'Wannabe King', but all of my worlds have always been white, and I am afraid to miss out on black world stuff by finishing the first run-through without seeing/doing the black content.. and even with the wiki, some of the finer points still confuse me. Like, for example, if you have defeated the final demo boss on a particular world, such as the Dragon God, but you still don't quite have pure white world tendency, is there anything else you can do to bump it up the rest of the way? Just little things like that I find frustrating, the complete lack of clear information (which I suppose is part of its charm). Anyway, you guys are all probably on your NG+++ etc etc.. hehehe Ah well, can't wait to get home and continue to practice the parry moves with the Baby's Nail on my magic user.. good times, good times..
If you didn't get pure white world tendency after beating the final boss in a world, you probably died in body form in this world before. I remember helping other players defeating demons in their world increases your world tendency, but I don't think this works any more in the latest patch. So I'd say if you are going for pure white world tendency, always suicide in Nexes and go in a world in soul form.
Interestingly, if you guys are longing for more RPG experiences this gen, I hope you have spent some time with the handhelds. Some great stuff there. Hell, the iPhone has an awesome old schhol FF type game in Chaos Rings.
