As for the Spoiler at the end after the credit I can only think SPOILER [but more of a guess] PROTEUS Meetings OUTSLAUGHT Rocket River
Fox was under contract to have the movie done by this year or not at all. If they waited a year, they would have lost their rights to make the movie, period. Thus, what we have literally was the best they could do at the end of their time limit. When singer jumped ship relatively late in the game, it all but guaranteed that this movie would be a rush job. But from a money standpoint, that apparently didn't matter at all. They made back their money and their P/A in a week.
See I don't buy that all, cause all the reports I've read since Singer left mentioned nothing of HAVING to get it done within this time frame. I kept hearing Fox wanted to rush it into production to get it out ahead of Superman Returns as a kind of "screw you" to Singer. Even IF true, you telling me Fox couldn't renegotiate and extend the rights either giving Ratner more time or letting Singer come back after Superman returns to put a better product out, which would in turn make the film more money? Naw, the films reaks of Fox's indifference to the movie and to the franchise.
Why would they need to make a Wolverine spinoff? They just had 3 Wolverine movies. They need to make a Colossus/Kitty or a Nightcrawler, maybe even an Excalibur spinoff, not more of Wolverine. We get it, you are an angry guy that regenerates. Boooooring.
i thought the movie sucked pretty much ended the same way it began with lots of people dying in the process on a side note, was that asian girl who was sitting in the front row during a class at the school/mansion jubilee? i wouldn't mind seeing apocalypse, bishop, and cable in future xmen movies anybody catch the preview to ghost rider with nicolas cage? looks decent
It had nothing to do with Fox's contract with the directors, it was with their contract with marvel. under contract, they have to keep on making movies under a certain time frame or lose the rights to x-men. Marvel would have LOVED for them to miss the deadline so they could get X-men back to make their own movies.
Yeah, Ghost Rider could be a decent movie, but not with the way they made his flaming head look, and certainly not with freaking Nicholas Cage.
I don't know of official quotes, but I've seen numerous reports that Marvel wasn't thrilled with how loosely they stayed with the comics (vs Spiderman, for example) and that they wanted a crack at doing X-Men on their own. Personally, I think it's too late and they'll need at least a few years before the public would go for a different stab. Unless they go with a cartoon route. Evan
Here here! I have every issue of the monthly series! Though I do love Wolverine too, I'm not gonna lie.
Just thought I'd bring up this thread and apologize for not putting a spoiler warning in my original post.
Once Fox's rights run out, and a few years have passed (like for Batman) I would imagine they would try again. I would love to see a hard PG-13 to R rated X-Men that stayed a little bit closer to the comics.
Batman Begins is coming on HBO now... and that movie is pretty damn good (and underrated, compared to all the love that Spiderman got). It sticks more with the comics, it features good acting (minus KH, of course... although she does have some decent spots), and its action sequences aren't the CGI-fest that dominates these movies nowadays (which look more and more fake everytime I see them). If any "franchise" got it right after going horribly wrong, its WB and Batman. I know that some people may have thought it was mainly good because of how crap-tastic the Schumacher onces were... but I don't think that's the case at all. The movie stands on its own... it even superseeds the Burton original (when you take into account accuracy with the comics, showing how batman got his start, and action sequences).
You know I thought Burton's Batman was pretty damn good back in the day, but it really doesn't stand the test of time very well. I don't think you can do much better than Batman Begins though; hopefully they sustain that. And Spiderman is the best example by far of a comic book movie getting and keeping it right. It's a shame, with all the potential it had, that X-Men (so far) has only produced one truly great movie (X2).
Some friends thought X3 should've been rated R. How much different would it be if Wolverine used knives
