The inevitable happened. That freaken ring of death showed up AGAIN. This is my second X box 360. I had warranty on both but I lost the receipt on this one so I can't exchange it for a new one (Freaken Gamestop that only takes it back if you have a receipt). Whats worse is I was playing Lost Odyssey, and was at the very end and the game stopped. (By the way one of the best RPGs I've played, you will get emotional playing this game and i'm as stoic as a rock) Thats like 60 to 70 hours gone down the toilet, pisses me off. So I have couple of questions here, first if I get a new 360 can i connect my old hard drive and still use it? and what kind of 360 should I get? I'm thinking of going with the elite, seems to run a little better for a little more. If I go through best buy or some other place (Gamestop seems soo shady to me) I'm sure I can get the 3 yr warranty and wont have to sweat if I lose the receipt. I'm also thinking of just holding out for a PS 3 when metal gear solid comes out but at the same time i'm going to waste my X BOX live membership and wont be able to play the games I have. What should i do?
Call Xbox and they'll probably charge you a hundred bucks or so but they'll fix it or send you a new one.
I am not a 360 guy but I do have some advice. I believe Target has a cheaper, longer, more extensive warranty offer than Best Buy's.
I've read somewhere maybe here on Clutchfans that Costco has a crazy return policy. If my 360 broke today, I'd pick up another one at Costco.
call them. they'll send you a pre-paid box and ship it off. i got mine back in less than 1 week (they have a repair center in texas). Assistance by phone seven days a week. 1-800-4MY-XBOX International (direct dial to U.S.): 425-635-7180 Hearing Impaired (TDD device): 1-866-740-9269 or 425-635-7102 Hours of operation (every day): 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M. Eastern Time 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Pacific Time
they wont charge you anything, 3 yr extended through M$, just call them at 1 800 4myXbox and they should take care of it, but if you want to purchase a new system its as easy as switching your hard drive to the new one, no point to get the elite because its main difference is only the 120gig HDD. Most Pros now have the HDMI port and the second heatsink. I wouldnt get a PS3 at this point JUST for Metal Gear...you will have to start over your game library etc etc, just seems like too much cost to soak.
get a ps3 and try to get an 80gb while you can. seems to much of a hassle to have systems break down and having to replace them. 16% of 360's are likely to break down while other consoles are around 1-3% http://us.i1.yimg.com/videogames.yahoo.com/feature/red-ring-of-failure/1192354
i got mine back in 5 days. also, it really really really isn't very hard to live without a game system for a week. there's something called the real world that's pretty cool too. you know going out. exercising. traveling. going to a basketball game. playing basketball. reading.
yeah, not to mention if you decide to drop your xbox $399 and not get it repaired and games lets say you have 4 games $236 that's 635$ down the trash then on top that buy a ps3 $399 plus games. That's over $1000 dropped on gaming for not being able wait awhile and not hang yourself cause you can't play video games. then again, i guess you kids have rich parents.
i'm one of the original KNIGHTS OF CLUTCHCITY est 1999 here to defend our King Clutch and his kingdom Clutchfans from haters and sketchy newbs
well I'm glad I have a PS3. If you're looking to get a blu-ray player, I think it's a good deal. Haha, kids? Turn 17 on the 17th. I need a job. lol
And now for some optimism. I called X box 360 and they will fix my X box free of charge. WOO HOO! I was soo depressed, I thought I was going to have to shell out money I dont have. Anywayz, thanks for all the help guys you saved the day.
