Anyone watch WWII in Color on Netflix? I didn't purposely watch it but it hooked me in and ended up binge watching it. I thought it was a really good series that helps contextualize the war.
I have a really hard time watching this movie, but its very good. Also, go look at the cast list of The Longest Day. It is incredible. Did anyone mention To Hell and Back? Audie Murphy is a favorite of mine, possibly due to his incredible real life story.
Interesting I think only @Buck Turgidson has mentioned what is probably the best made (IMHO) WWII era movies.....Downfall. All the actors did an outstanding job, but what I didn't know until recently was how close to accurate each of the actors looked to their real life counterparts. Also, as Buck also mentioned....Conspiracy...an HBO movie about the "Wannsee Conference" that is at parts fascinating and revolting. Most of the dialogue is straight from the actual notes of the 1 copy of the meeting that has survived. I still marvel that this actually happened within my parents lifetime. My contribution of a movie not yet shared is: Anthropoid: The true story of the WWII mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich.
Downfall isn't available on DVD.com or Popcorn Time, and I can find almost everything with those two.
pretty entertaining review of Saving Private Ryan: https://fabiusmaximus.com/2020/11/22/spielberg-saved-private-ryan-and-killed-patriotism/
I love, love Terence Malick, and I love that movie (came out same year as Saving Private Damon, and I say it's a better film) If you're a reader, read the book.
I watched Conspiracy last night, as someone listed it here. Okay movie, but I have a huge problem with accents in movies. Like okay, it's an English produced movie for an English speaking audience, so they're going to speak English, not german, okay. But AT LEAST give them German accents...
