It doesn't matter where a movie opens at the box office if it doesn't make a profit.

    one last point
The Rock ($600,000 a year 'downside' until 2005) but his actual earnings exceeded $2 million in 1999. with WWE

He made 15 million for Walking Tall

like i said...bigger and better things

The PPV is in Houston this month, for those who don't know. WWE Vengeance is on June 24 at the Toyota Center and was sold out over a week ago! Shows that Houston still has some dedicated wrestling fans.

I haven't been into wrestling much lately... partly due to Kurt Angle's departure and WWE's obsession with idiots like Cena and Batista.. but I thought it would be fun to catch a PPV live =). sigh.. it was sold out though

Does not include promotion (advertising) or making the prints of movies and distributing them to theaters (between 6,000-8,000 per movie print). Additionally, part of that revenue must be shared with theaters for showing it. If your best example of The Rock's 'success' at the movies is Grid Iron Gang, then you're absolutely wrong. Additionally, PLEASE don't tell me you're getting that Box Office # or The Rock's salary for Walking Tall from Wikipedia, PLEASE.

i've watched it since i was a little kid - like about 3 years old!!

now 24 and its never ever been worse!!

Best years were 98-2000ish - the 'attitude' era sparked by the monday night wars. if you dont know what im talking about wikipedia can help i cant be bothered.

they are pushing Cena as some kind of new age Hulk Hogan beating all the monsters they can throw at him.

I actually like Cena, they will eventually turn him heel again, and it wont be a moment too soon. He gets a bad rap(no pun intended) but he can be entertaining and has a helluva lot more going for him than any of the other headliners. Edge included, who just doesnt do anything for me. His best days were with Christian jumping off ladders and being funny buggers.

the constant push of guys like Henry, Khali etc without vindication is crazy. And only the serious marks are buying into it.

once i would never miss a smackdown or a raw - these days i take it or leave it, usaully will read the net recap though. I hold out hope that its cyclical and things will turn for the better.

Hopefully this thing with Mcmahon will keep him off TV forever, or at least 12 months, caus having him the tube for every show , 3 shows a week, is just a bloody crime.

I don't mind Cena and Batista. They can actually do something in the ring. It's the guys like Mark Henry, The Great Khali and The Boogie Man that had me turning the channel.

how is the Rock doing any worse than if he had stayed at WWE? those box office numbers don't include dvd sales either. i know for sure without even looking it up that he's made more money per year doing movies than he ever will at WWE. not to mention, he doesn't have the same risk for injury as a movie star.

Not really, Raw is in the top 10 every single week. I love my MMA and for as much of an EXPLOSION they are having, it seems it is limited to PPV. WWE shows are still watched by millions. Toyota Center has been sold out a couple of weeks for the PPV coming up. I used to watch WWE programming every week, but now I rarely catch it. Wrestling isn't what it used to be, but still brings in a ton fo cash.

But last night I did watch the entire show and was entertained. matches that meant something, limited skits, and a wtf ending. It was a good show. But WWE is the kind of thing if you watch it too much, you end up hating it.

I miss the WWF vs WCW days. Raw vs Nitro. Monday nights used to be so much fun. You had McMahon vs Austin (best feud ever) on WWF and the rise of the NWO (best gimmick ever) on WCW.

Remember when Austin hit Vince on the head with a dirty bedpan while he was in the hospital? :D Or when he drove that beer truck into the arena and sprayed Vince with the hose? Or when HHH "married" Stephanie McMahon?

How about when Hulk finally went NWO? Or when Nash and Hall used to come in and break up every match? Or the Scott Hall drinking angle? Or all those fake Stings?

    Wrestling used to be great.

TNA is what ecw should be. No surprise Benoit went there, nor the boogeyman.

It seems like it wasn't a draft, just a random lottery.

I haven't watched wrestling in a long time, but I met Booker T. last weekend when I was working on an event for the Houston Public Library. I guess he's called King Booker now. Really nice guy and he was great with the kids.

Maybe the "death" of McMahon means there's a rebirth in the product?

The big problem is the lack of competition. (And I don't count TNA).

When it was WWF vs WCW it forced both shows to step up their game to grab the eyeballs. Better product.

Now WWE is all by itself. One could make the case their compeition is UFC.
But right now WWE is just McMahanon's playground for him to do his childish potty humor jokes that only HE finds funny. Throw in some "puppies" and there is your show.

Chances are, the wrestling fans that like the old days of the "gritty" type storylines and action are either watching TNA or UFC.

WWE won't change until it is really challenged.

And you would think McMahon knows that his product sucks right now.
