^^^ my point is, warranty is a huge factor when it comes to consumer products. how many laptop deals do ppl pass over @ slickdeals because they are refurb when studies show that they have longer lives than a new retail product.

    one big reason?

    a) warranty is normally only 90 days vs. 1 year whenever we're talking about a gigantic discount from 1k laptops down to 600 too.

no the ipod touches cannot receive a 2/3g signal but can get wifi so there is no data plan to be bought

the biggest different between the iphone and ipod touch is the data and of course the calling feature (dunno if the new touches have a camera though)

The new ipod touch has a front(for video conferencing with facetime) and a camera at the back for taking pictures.

these seem really cool and something i might like to buy myself for my bday or xmas, i had been curious as to whether you had to pay for anything after purchasing it. so i could use my wifi at home on it, but if you're just driving around somewhere, you're not going to be able to connect to certain features.

sorry for my ignorance, even after researching a little i still needed clarification

ah cool i didnt know that i never was that into a touch considering i would rather have the phone and the lack of the data on it if i was on the go.

fb - the only costs would be any apps/music you purchase on it that would be the only after purchase costs i can think of for the touch

if what playlife says is true that the new touch can video conference and has the same camera as the iphone 4 (which takes great pictures btw) i would go for that so at least you would eliminate having to take a bulky camera when you go places. but i dont know what your budget would be (or how much the new ipod touches go for)

sweet...i'm totally buying one for my bday. if the 3rd gen is a lot cheaper, i might go with that...it looks like amazon has the brand new one for $220, which seems pretty cheap.

i had no idea these things were so reasonably priced.

Staples actually had the 32GB 3rd gen on sale (not advertised) for only $148! Went to two Staples, even drove 18 miles to one, and both had just sold the last ones. Either that or the greedy employees wanted to keep it for themselves.

I work at Staples, and apple products like that are BIG time hit or miss. We normally only have like 1 or 2 touches in stock. Right now I think we have 1, but I haven't worked in like 3 days.

FYI the 8gb ipod touch model being sold in this thread is actually a 2ND GEN I believe, meaning it can't multitask or do any of the cool stuff the newer ones do.

Right now the iPod touch is in it's 4th gen, apple didn't even make a 8gb 3rd gen ipod touch.

So is it true employees keep heavily discounted clearance items for themselves?

Yep the 8gb is 2nd gen. Apple re-released it with the 3rd gen 32gb and 64gb and called it a 3rd gen but there is no difference between the models.

I can't lie, that does happen. A lot of the time, it invovles an item that was hidden or lost in the back storage room.

When an item goes on clearance, a lot of the time it is taken off the floor. And just ends up sitting in the back till the price drops to nothing and is then purchased by someone.

I ended up getting some philips video player, that I put about 30 movies on and the battery lasted my entire flight from Houston to Amsterdam and I watched another movie on the rest of the flight to Saudi.

It is ridiculous....when people try to sell things for retail cost (or just below it). Try $150, then you might get a bite.
