We're still going through it 20 years later. I have seen several "Rockets only won championships because Jordan played baseball" posts on Facebook (my mistake for reading FB comments, I know..)
I checked the last page of the game thread just before I posted and I didn't see it there. I see now some people did post it there too. I just think it's BS that they picked the team that we just BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF as the best team in Texas with no mention of the Rockets. I don't care if they got starters out, there's no guarantees that Ginobili and Duncan can even finish the season.
I still remember after our first championship we couldn't even make the SI cover or get a dedicated issue(forgot which). I basically never expect the national media to give a damn about Houston.
Weird but true. And even if the Rockets win it all, they will say the Champions get an asterisk because the Thunder were derailed by injuries, and the anti Rockets bias isn't anything new. Even when the Rockets won their first two Championships, the national media did everything they could to taint them. This is why I pay so little attention to pro sports media, especially on the NBA or MLB side, but things are a bit better with the media who cover t he NFL. But don't expect the Rockets to ever get a fair shake in the media, and please accept that Harden has very slim odds of winning MVP no matter how well he plays. Hopefully the team can use this as more motivation, and both Dwight and Harden are clearly very very motivated this season.
Not nearly as talented, but we didn't have our starting PG & PF in Bev & Jones. We're just takin care of business, good teams win the games they should. And we've done that these first 6 games (by double-digits mind you)
Mother$#%s... even in the second game, they keep saying rockets win over spurs with ginobili, duncan, bellinelli sitting out... what about Beverly, Jones, sitting out??!
I don't really care about being called the best anything 6 games in, but it is annoying to keep hearing the media mention how Ginobili and Duncan were out without mentioning the Rockets missing Beverly and Jones.
The Spurs just won the championship and we got b**** slapped in the first round. Who the hell did you expect them to say is the best a week into the season?
It is also ironic that you say that considering the Rockets were 4 and 8 in the playoffs with those guys. In other words they do not sound anything like Asik and Lin. Instead Asik is in last place in this division and Lin is on a winless team that was destroyed by the Rockets.
Could be worse. They could be doing 24 hr round the clock coverage of the Texans NRG field conditions.
To be fair, we had two starters out as well along with our main backup big....on a normal day, Capela wouldn't see the light of the court. With Black and Jones out, it was a different story. But still, all the media is doing is giving the team more chips on the shoulder. Which is fine with me.
