The guy is a coward and murderer, regardless of his motivation.

She's speechless because she can't believe a white person would do this.

Not so sure if I want to rush to sympathize with the mother here, given that I don't know the context.

But what the man did was unacceptable. Every child, even if he becomes a douche bag or, God forbid, the next Ted Bundy, deserves a chance at life.

It's a terribly ignorant assumption to assume this guy killed his kid because he wanted revenge on the mother. Have any of you considered that the father knew (or more likely was crazy and thought he knew) that the boy's life with his mother was going to be horrific? In this man's mind, death could have been a better alternative.

The guy was definitely not playing with a full deck but I've seen enough mental illness to know some people can do horrible things to themselves and the ones they truly love when in their mind it is the only solution.

At least he died while doing what he loved.

I see your point. Either way, no justifications for his actions.

Agree 100%. Adults are responsible for their own actions no matter what. I just thought it wrong for people who have never met the guy to think they knew his motivation for the terrible thing he did. People are pretty complex.

I figured he was just a loser who couldn't cope with or own his problems, and was self-absorbed enough to take someone else with him. I'm not part of this dogpile, but I don't think there's a lot to analyze with something this far off the bell curve.

I just hope that somehow, someway, justice will be served where it is due.

This bull**** keeps happening. Why do these clowns have to murder their children before offing themselves? It is bad enough that they chose to spawn children. I wish I believed in hell so that I could feel that justice can ever be obtained.

In my viewpoint, you just replaced what you called a "terribly ignorant assumption" with another "terribly ignorant assumption" going so far as to say he "was definitely not playing with a full deck". How do you know that? The only real facts to come out in this case are there was a terrible custody dispute and the final arrangement was he had to pick up his son for visitation at a police station as the agreed upon spot. Why the court would pick a police station as the spot is probably because that is what the ex wanted and the court agreed? He probably had little say in that as why would he want to feel like a felon having to go to a police station to pick up his son for visitation? Otherwise, the court is saying the man is too much of a danger to his ex to just pick up his son at a normal location. If that were the case, then they would have given him no visitation at all and recommended a full mental evaluation on him before he could have visitation.

It seems likely that no one saw this outcome coming at all...not even the ex. There were no signs of mental illness at all. There was likely no history of him threatening or doing anything to his ex (or he probably would not have been granted visitation). The man just didn't like how the custody hearing turned out and the cards he was dealt. Given that...he could have just taken himself out of it with his son for that reason alone with no revenge motive intended against his ex. But, it seems reasonable he was at least partially trying to get back at his ex in the process for putting him in this hell to begin with versus something like an equal joint custody agreement.

My point is a lot of these cases are revenge-oriented when the man does something like this. The point is to punish the ex and deprive her of what he is being deprived of...the right to see his children whenever he wants and/or raise his children. So, I don't think it is a terribly ignorant assumption at all. It is a logical assumption that is possible it could be proved after-the-fact it was something else later on. but, terribly ignorant is not how I would describe it.

But, we can agree to disagree here. If more facts come out, then it may prove one way or another.

Better yet....I hope he never has to face a custody battle. His "justifications" are kinda alarming.

It isn't automatic at this point, not even in conservative Texas. However, that said, if the mother is a fit parent, small kids need their mother. I had a very loving father, however, I can tell you that mom was just better at nurturing small kids. Judges recognize that in most cases that is true.

Most cases today have some kind of shared custody arrangement with one parent being the primary.

There is simply no excuse for throwing your kid off a 52 story building...NONE.
