I'm sure this will get blasted but salt lick is not that good of bbq. Its all about the ambience at that place, the food is not that good. Its still worth going to though, and I have been going there close to 30 years
i agree. i've been going there my entire life (friends of the family) and was even married at the Salt Lick Pavillion (on the other side of the creek from the restaurant). the food is "good" not "great." i think it was better in the past, but just started slippin' the last 10-or-so years.
Personally, I think the County Line all-you-can-eat beats the pants off of the Salt Lick. Even then, you get better quality stuff if you order off the menu. Surprised there's been no love for County Line in this thread. Best pork AND beef ribs in Austin, plus the bread there is awesome. Expensive, but probably my most reliable BBQ joint in Austin. Great place to take non-Texan guests. I know there's a County Line here in Houston, but I've never been so I don't know if it is as good.
