The other thing Newsom came under fire (pun not intended) was how they botched the state COVID relief benefit and allowed (out of state) prison inmates and other fraudsters loot up to 4 billion in relief funds. Even had local rap artist flash defrauded debit cards in a music video.

His job is mainly to look pretty, not rock the boat (by staying away from crack, hos and rehab) , and say the right things...

 

I imagine that somewhere on the internet there’s a photo of Justin Trudeau sporting this look at a party in college.

It's much worse than that. The estimate is ~$31 BILLLION in EDD fraud. How do you lose $31 BILLION in taxpayer money in less than 1 year and why isn't anyone fired yet???

It is because California statewide politics is just about virtue signaling. There is no incentive to put in any sort of controls on how money is spent or fight waste and fraud, because the voters largely just want big spending on big issues. Tens of billions in EDD fraud will be spun as tens of billions on providing a social safety net during the pandemic (which by the way voters, those dirty Republicans keep making worse by wanting to have in person schooling, no lockdowns, and racism somehow). Newsom is out there crowing about California have a giant surplus (because taxes are high and silicon valley did very well during the pandemic) so who cares if our tax dollars are being stolen. Certainly not our state government. There is no verification of any information for unemployment benefits during the pandemic. They didn't verify employment status, address, prior employment, anything.

Oh yeah, you also cannot get anyone to do anything about it. There were dozens of fraudulent EDD claims that somehow got sent to my home (including one in my name). I reported it to the police and turned them all over. There was never any follow up. I received dozens more, reported those as well, and they didn't even bother collecting them for evidence.

Listen to the interview Newsom did with Adam Carolla and you will have a perfect understanding of Newsom and of California politics.
