Looks more like a fake Rolex. My boys wouldn't quit giving me **** about it looking like a fake Rolex since they never heard of Invicta. I like to mix up my watches every so often and since the Invicta is automatic I got to adjust the time and date all the time so instead it gets no play. Anybody wanna buy mine?!
I have no idea what kind of a watch you should wear, but I just wanted to post somewhere that I'm in a great mood, still completely in love with my ex, and won't let the ex factor (pun intended) stop me. Night!
Not to sound like a shallow Dallasite, but going quartz over automatic is like going for a Camry over a Lexus LS. Nothing wrong with the Camry, if that's all you can afford. Depends if you get an earlier model with the coin edges that resemble the Rolex Submariner or the oyster like bezel which resembles the Omega Seamaster (the James Bond watch in the Pierce Brosnan era). I wear Panerai myself.
price or not... how much maintenance do you want? a new battery every 2-3 years costing at most $50, or a complete overhaul every 5 years costing $500? these are obviously generic numbers, but i've heard more than one horologist swear against automatic movements. i'll listen to the experts on this one.
Just like a Camry will probably cheaper to maintain then a high end german car. You get what you pay for, and higher end items sometimes require higher dollar maintenance. Those horologists were commenting on the maintenance factor alone I'm assuming, and not on craftsmanship. I can buy a Casio G-Shock Atomic Watch if I want a long lasting low maintenance watch. Put it this way, that girl was looking for a Swiss Automatic, and she thought you were just a Japanese Quartz, hence the rebuke. I keed I keed
You need to read more carefully . I said in one sentence that I found out about a ton of lesser known watches. Then I went on to say "A good brand with recognition that won't set you back too much as far as "nice" watches go (i.e. $1,000) is Tag Heuer. This is probably a good watch if you want name recognition for a "reasonable" price." It doesn't sound to me like I said that people have never heard of Tags or Omegas. I specifically singled them out as brands with recognition! He also said "I need a professional watch rather than a stylish one" which, to me, says he was looking to move up from Fossil. Next I suggested Seiko which, for the most part are very affordable. I then went on to list several brands (Tissot and Invicta) that were good Swiss automatic and quartz watches that can be had for between $300 and $500 new (and maybe even less on Amazon or Overstock). Stowa is an excellent brand and you can buy direct from them for about $700. I also just found an Oris on Amazon that lists for $1250 discounted to about $650. So I made several suggestions for watches well under a grand. These are all examples of great watch brands that aren't as well known. Most all of them are way more professional then Fossil. You must have been very sleepy when you read what I wrote because your reply makes no sense.
I'm a watch snob too, but some of the responses in this thread are ridiculous.. FYI, if you’re going to be wearing a suit and doing interviews don't listen to almost everyone in this thread, metal bands with a suit look really tacky and a contradiction of style.. IMO a nice modern rectangular face with a black or brown leather band would do a better job for wearing with a suit and doing interviews than a metal band.. Leave the metal bands for knocking around the office without a suit and on the weekends..
Get a Skagen. They range from $75 to $150 and are truly unique. I've worn one for 3 years now, and get a lot more attention than when I wear my Tag Heuer (that I bought a pawn shop). Besides, they are so light that you don't notice them.
I like my Bulova watch. I used to wear Fossil, but the faces on them would always get scratched up. I've had this watch since around October and wear it daily without getting 1 scratch yet. Awesome.
I have this watch on my wrist right now Decent price, stylish (IMHO), and DURABLE. I'm pretty tough on watches, but I've had this one for almost two years, and it has almost no scratches on it. http://www.amazon.com/Invicta-Mens-Collection-Watch-2876/dp/B0009P65ZU
I think a leather band and rectangular face would be fare better with a suit. After seeing some of the images posted for automatics, I am not that impressed in terms of the face of the wristwatch. Some look like knockoffs of the Rolex Oyster.
I reccomend a gshock. Screw down caseback, shock resistant and tons of features. Analog (Giez) MTG-1000 or Digital (Frogman Dawn Black) (Master Bue Frogman)
