All we need is Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig, Shawn Michaels and Brett Hart and brutus beefcake in a match. Too bad Hennig has past. RIP, my friend.
haha yeah his attempt at the sharpshooter was pretty pathetic. Should've just stuck with the Peeps elbow and rock bottom. I miss "the most electrifying man in sports entertainment" though. For me he really was just that.
Wrong. Bret Hart is one of the best in ring performers in the history of the business. He was very average with the microphone, but in the ring, there has never been any better. Chris Benoit was close...trained by the late Stu Hart (Bret's father).
My bro used to own me with the sharpshooter. it sucked. when the wwf came to my town, we were standing right where the wrestlers come out.... brett hart walked by us caught a glimpse of my sister came back and hugged her, then proceeded to the ring. thought id share
I'm firmly in the "Bret Hart was Overrated" camp. Sure, he could move in the ring, but he was extremely weak on the mic. Quick, name a classic Hitman promo! There are none. Bret made a career out of playing one note in my opinion, but obviously a lot of people loved the guy. His case for getting "screwed" by Vince was always weak. He should have dropped the belt whenever and wherever the company asked, just like guys 10 times more important to the sport like Flair, the Undertaker, Harley Race, Steamboat, Sting, and other did without hesitation. But his ego was too big. Naturally, WCW had no idea what to do with him and he ended up having a few years taken off his life by Goldberg. The stroke was a terrible shame. For years, Bret claimed he would never work with Vince again after Vince let the show go on following Owen Hart's death. Bret was really just pissed about being "screwed." Like so many of his peers, he couldn't resist one last spotlight, so here he comes. Leave the pink at home, Hitman.
When he called Pittsburgh a cesspool I would say that was his "promo" IMO...I would rate that with Hogan telling the fans to shut the hell up lol. Hart was great in the ring and setup his opponent perfectly but yea I agree the dude should have just dropped the title to the "HOT" item at the time, DX, without complaining. Bret and WCW just didn't make sense but I guess with the money going around it made sense to him plus sticking it to Vinnie Mac.
He had creative control which he had never exercised before. He had every right to use it. This is akin to fans getting mad at players for using a no-trade clause. They negotiate them for a reason. He made an agreement with Vince McMahon and Vince screwed him.
That's a pretty broad definition of "creative control." Creative control means Bret had some say over how his character was portrayed. It means if Vince wanted Bret to guzzle beer in the ring and flip off the fans, Bret could say no. "Creative control" doesn't mean you get to pick and choose when you win and when you lose, NOR do you get to choose who you lose to, particularly when you're the champ and your company is fighting for its survival against a cutthroat rival that you've SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH. I fail to see how being essentially stripped of a fake title by the company that made it up is grounds for being "screwed" in any case.
are you my older brother? My older brother used to always bully me and would practice the wrestling moves on me lol once I was jumping on the bed and I guess he tried to trap my legs with some wrestling move and damnnnnn my face went straight to the floor lol oh the memories haha I loved the wwf! Brett was one of my faves. Ravishing rick rude, hacksaw, Rick flair, superfly and sooo many more
Actually, that is exactly what it means. He had total control over his character in the final month of his contract (might have been 60 days). In wrestling, character includes wins/losses. As for signing for his rival company, he didn't do that because he wanted to. Read up on the story. Vince was cash strapped and had signed Bret to a contract he couldn't afford anymore. He had to ask Bret to see if WCW would give sign him so he could get out of the contract. Bret did that for Vince. He was screwed because he had an arrangement with Vince McMahon on a specific series of events that were set to unfold, including him agreeing to either lose the title or vacate the title the very next night on Raw. Vince had agreed to it and there is record that the agreement was made. Then Vince orchestrated a screwjob behind his back. What would you call breaking your word in a business agreement other than screwing someone?
I can't recall another example of a guy refusing to lose the title to the guy the company wanted to have the belt. Bret Hart let his petty grudge against Shawn Michaels get in the way of business. You make it sound like Bret's contract gave him the right to win or lose whenever and wherever he wanted. Vince handled the situation in a dishonorable way, I agree, but the "screwjob" did not damage Bret Hart. He wasn't screwed out of a dime by Vince McMahon, so it's a little silly for him to play the martyr considering the insanely ****ed up **** other promoters have pulled on wrestlers. Bret's "lifetime" contract was a huge mistake by Vince, but part of the reason he did not want to pay it was because of Bret Hart himself. Put simply, Bret never drew terribly well as champion. Vince was getting his ass kicked by the NWO at the time, and he needed to make some changes. The no. 1 change that he wanted to make was getting rid of Bret Hart as champion. Vince made it clear that Bret's role would be changing, and Bret didn't like that. He told Vince he'd rather go to WCW and stay at the top of the card, which of course Vince knew. So they agreed to end their business relationship. But of course, Bret wanted to dictate the ending... Eventually, ditching Bret Hart proved to be a fantastic idea. WWF Attitude was born, and yadda yadda. WCW was a slowly sinking ship by then, but Bret Hart made an insane amount of money off of them. If it hadn't been for Goldberg's sloppiness, I'd say Bret had nothing much to complain about in the whole deal.
