i'd like to see a stat comparison with star players removed from all of them, the reason being that a 6 yo could come up with the idea of having Dwight Howard playing a lot of minutes and it would help Orlando win immensely, as well as improve their performance everywhere else, and I'd like to see how the stats slide for role players.

I don't get the overachieving status of Chicago, they're in the weakest division in the history of basketball, so that has padded their WL on low effort games and carry the injuries, player wise, if we were picking players from Chicago and Orlando for example, After Howard, I'd take Rose, Boozer and Noah absolutely definitely before anyone else on Orlando, and I may well take Deng because his of improved defense this year makes him well, better than the next best player.

They have one of the best rounded team in the nba, which is why they can beat all but a cpl elite teams in their conference when carrying injuries.

So is this what really happens to the essence of most threads?

Thanks Hayesfan, this is one of the most eye-popping threads I've seen, and not because of the content but because of the incongruent reactions.

If Lowry played this entire season like he played the last ten or so games, yes. Also, the Rockets would need to be at least one of the top three teams in the league or the West's better teams.

Sorry for the earlier bratty response. :)

Anyway, about the WP, Rose and Kyle:

First, I really don't like Berri's "Wins Produces" stat for the reasons widely discussed among the geek community-- that it overrates some stats (like offensive boards) while underrate otherss. I think that, according to Berri's calculation, this year, Kevin Love has a "WP" of .480 per 48 minutes, or about 25 over the course of the season.

Now, I believe Love is an important player and his offensive rebounds prowess contributes greatly to his team, but given that the team has only won 17 games overall, is Berri telling us that, absent Love, the rest of the team would wing negative 8 games this season?

In any case, I think what it shows is that the remarkable offensive rebounding prowess of guys like Love doesn't impact the game as much as Berri thinks it does.

Second, my gut sense is that both Rose and Lowry are more important to their respectie team's success than Berri's numbers suggest. Maybe they are not the most important players in the league and there are others with greater impact (I havent thought through every player on every team), but they each bring things that no one else on their team bring. For Rose, it's the ability to create shots for himself and others, for Lowry, it's the ability to really be the floor general and manage the Adelman War Machine. Maybe you can go through short stretches winning without them, but any prolonged absence would change the nature of the team.
