We didn't pick Batum for us. We pick him at 25 and traded him for Green and Dorsey. Green turned into Artest and a playoff victory, so I'm good with that.
Well if you think about it Dorsey played a part in bringing Pap over so I'd rather have Pap and Dorsey rather than Adrien. Both Covington and Cisco wouldn't get any PT in an ideal scenario, and in that case I'd rather have Cisco for that vet locker room presence and maturity to just watch at the end of the bench. Covington is a young guy trying to ensure his financial security, being at the end of the bench would have him chomping at the bit to show what he can do and that might cause tension in the team. More importantly we don't even know if Covington is actually better than Cisco, he looks good now but then again he was utter crap when he had him on the squad, maybe he needs lots of PT to get comfortable and he'll never get that here.
I personally can generate little excitement over a scrub playing on one of the worst NBA teams in history.
Except he's really only 6' 6.25" and the Rockets probably felt he wasn't big enough to guard power forwards, and he wasn't quick enough to guard small forwards. I'm happy he's getting a shot in Philly, and with all the injuries the Rockets have had, we probably could use him. But he was probably going to be an end of the bench guy here in Houston with a healthy Ariza, Papa, DMo, and TJones. We already have one three point specialist in Daniels that doesn't see the court, we probably didn't need another. The Rockets are all about defense this year, Covington just didn't fit.
One could make a legit argument these days that Robert Covington is the Sixers' best player. Damn...smh. That team is an embarrassment. For the month of December, 15.7 points and 5.5 rebounds on .427 and .435 from three on 6.5 attempts per game. Good for him. Like JVG always says, somebody on a bad team has to be relied on to score the points. At least he is stepping up. Not saying he is their best player...just the fact that you could even state a case for it though is kind of crazy to me. He is certainly up there. Hinkie's plan better work. http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/2490620/robert-covington
http://www.82games.com/1415/1415PHI.HTM 82games confirms that Covington is their best player. In terms of efficiency from the 3pt line, he'd be our best SF right now but I imagine not nearly as good defensively as Ariza. Still, he's real cheap and certainly an upgrade over Papanikolaou. Too bad we weren't able to keep him.

I love seeing these threads about how well our ex players are doing. It reaffirms my faith in Morey and our organization's ability to find talent.
Exactly. Of all the undrafted players in the league, wonder what team has brought must of them into the league.
I can't fault Morey for cutting Covington. He looked absolutely awful in the preseason. I am glad he is proving himself however.
Proves that Morey knew what he saw when we took him. He is probably just a lot more comfortable playing on a losing team, knowing no one cares if your shot goes in.
This logic works only if these ex-players aren't as good as our current ones. If those players are better than our current players, letting them go means the FO did NOT know what they saw. Anyway, Covington looks like Linsanity 2.0.
I disagree. The eye test tells me that Papa is a naturally more talented all around player. Covington is a better shooter. Morey really believed in Covington and willingly chose Papa over him. Papa makes winning plays passing, on defense, and ball handling when he gets a chance to play. Covington is performing well in his role. My guess is Papa would have similar stats on Philly if he was starting. Shved was their 6th man and he can't get off our bench.
I don't think that's accurate at all, especially when it comes to how Morey operates. He has the big picture in mind. He's chasing a title, not designing a "good" team. He would have tanked had Les allowed it. The goal of the GM is to finish #1 at some point, even if that means making sacrifices in the short term. We didn't let Parsons walk because we didn't know he was a good player or because we thought Ariza was better, we let him walk because we didn't feel we could win a title with him tying up our flexibility. We didn't cut Scola because we didn't think he was good. Former Rockets' players are making big contributions all over the league. It really is impressive. I don't sweat losing Covington at all, I assume Morey can find another. Cut one head off and another shall appear.
