Do the Cavs really try to even match this??

Boozer gave his word that he would re-sign with the Cavs if they released him, and now he signs the offer sheet with Utah. I would think an organization would let him go after the disrespect he showed them...

Excellent post. Makes sense for both sides. If we got that deal done, it would be a grand slam home run summer.

Deuce - I'd rather get Wagner too, I'm just trying not to go with complete highway robbery here. Brown at least would provide us another top flight athlete, which we kind of lack overall on this team (outside of TMac, who is sick). Battie and McInnis fill the only real voids on our team.

This is really quite a unique situation- we can really capitalize by having this trade exception. Cleveland absolutely needs to be able to create capspace, and the only ways are other teams with capspace or significant trade exceptions. We'll see how this plays out

I thought if it is more than a year, we will do it. His under rookie contract, it is loooooooooooooooooooooooow. Why do you trade for a good player for one year and then let him run away with free agency? It sucks. What're your reasons?

What really kills me about these so called proposals is that everyone wants the Rockets to win out right. When i thought about the McGrady-Francis deal way before any word was leaked, i was thinking about something that would be close to being fair for both teams. Sometimes you have to look at the other teams. If I'm paxson and i want to offer enough money to get Boozer, the first team i look at is the one with the most cap space which is ATL. I call up atl and say you can have Big Z who comes off the books after the season for essentially noghing or a protected pick down the line. That would free up 16mill and i can give Boozer his money, then i just Move Diop or Battie over to center. Either way we have our 2nd best player on board and still have everyone else that we need. Doesn't that make more sense?

Why would ATL take on Z's $14M contract? They don't need capspace next summer - they have $45M of it for next summer as of now. They gain nothing and you ask them to take on a bad fat contract. What is the logic?

I would ask CLE for Wagner and Diop and a first round pick, and give them 5 mil of our TE. Then they could sign Boozer by renouncing the TE, putting them 9 mil under the cap, enabling them to match Utah's offer. They'll find a way to sign him, but they'd never trade him to us, since someone will give them a deal. I'd love to have both players. It would be perfect for our depth, and quite a coup to add to our already amazing off-season.

Then, hopefully we are able to pick up Barry for the four years. At this stage, though, I bet that SEA goes 4 years. And, if Rudy becomes LAL coach, he'll lock up Fisher quick. We could be left out in the cold for a veteran PG.

Wagner isn't a top notch PG, but under the circumstances, he might actually work out this year, until we find a better solution next summer.

But, that would be an incredible use of our TE. You guys watch. Diop will turn into a player.

I may be wrong here. I don't think Cavs can trade away another 1st rounder. They already owe Bobcats one. The rule doesn't allow you to give another one before the first one is paid.

You can't send a draft pick away for two years in a row, unless its after the 1st pick is drafted, but I wouldn't care when it was in the future.

Why would Atlanta take on Illgauskas for free?

Why would they pay 15M? For a pick? Is a draft pick somewhere down the line from a team which will make the playoffs forever worth 15M?

We're looking to contend, so we can take spare parts.

Atlanta aren't looking for spare parts, they're looking for core players. The only one the Cavs can offer is Dajuan Wagner.. Is there anyone more similar to him in the league than Jason Terry?

Cleveland have two choices: Get ROBBED by Atlanta. Future pickS, cash, taking on any bad contracts, giving up Diop AND Wagner. Stuff like that.

    OR

They can get semi-robbed by us. Battie, Diop and Wagner for Pike and TE (where TE=Boozer). Pike is a player they wanted anyhow, and they get to re-sign Boozer. After this deal, they recover by signing someone to help play backup C, and they're set. Wagner wasn't playing much anyway, and their backcourt is fully stocked:

Lebron, McInnis, Ollie, Pike, Luke Jackson. Wagner would be nice, but he wouldn't play much. Lebron and McInnis play 40 minutes each, leaving 16 to backup both positions. Pike gets 5, Luke Jackson gets 5 at SG, and Ollie gets even 4... That leaves 2 minutes?

Make Paxson pay for his stupidity. Although I would personally deal with Detroit to free up capspace for them so they match the Okur offer sheet, and then the Jazz get screwed on that deal. We could send the TE to Detroit for Elden Campbell.

It's because it looks like no one very expensive will be signing with Altanta this summer but they at least need to get to the minimum salary limit NBA required, that I believe is about 30m. So instead of giving big money to some scrubs to get to the limit, they get a solid center with an expiring contract which can easilly be traded to teams who want center or capspace for something very good or can still be used to hold onto the capspace next summer. And then getting some future picks for nothing in the process. WHY NOT?

Well, you make a good point there, but they don't need all that much to reach the minimum salary. Terry, henderson and Crawford make over 20M combined. I'm sure there is a good 10M remaining, and if not, they can sign people to small one year contracts, or take on small one year contracts.

if Z was making around 8M, I'd understand. But they will have to pay Big Z 15M for a whole season, or half of that if they trade him at the deadline.

Too much money for a team who doesn't care about wins this upcoming season.

HOWEVER, tlanta just offered K-Mart 6 years at the MAX allowable. If he agrees to sign that, I don't think New Jersey will match it. Unless they get desperate as well, then WE cand eal the exception to them ;) . Anyway, let's say K-Mart goes there. Then they have an incentive to get Illgauskas and pay him for one year, because a team if Illgauskas/K-Mart/Terry/Childress can make the playoffs in the East. They'd need to get a couple of depth players, but it would work out fine.

However, I can see Atlanta trading Henderson to Cleveland for Illgauskas. That would soften the blow for them and make a deal possible. But again, why bother? They can just reach the bare minimum if they're not contending, or if they get K-Mart, they'll just take Big Z for free.

Did I miss something or did Boozer and his agent just completely renege on their verbal "agreement" with Cavs management? Is there no recourse?

I bet the Cavs would rather see us (or almost anyone else) get Carlos than have the Jazz end up with him.

Boozer will be either with the Jazz or with the Cavs. There is no way he will be anywhere else; it is impossible.
