if the cavs want to keep him they have to trade away some salary. if they are $2 mil under the cap now and we take away $6.9 mil with the TE then they can match the offer. or at least come close.

a 2nd rounder + the TE for battie and filler would work nicely for both teams.

1.) Eric Williams is a free agent.

2.) Doesn't work that way. The trade exception CAN be used with other player(s) (contrary to Feigen), but it does not simply add value. Basically, it has to have a "stand alone" aspect to it. Your deal can't work because of this. Battie for the TE works fine, but Pike+Griffin for Diop+Ollie doesn't work. Besides the fact that would leave the Cavs with only 2 big men- injury prone Ziggy, and Boozer.

I proposed a possibility of a cap opening scenario for the Cavs in another thread.

    TE for McInnis(3.6m)/Brown(2.33m); Pike+Nachbar (4.19m) for Battie (4.8m).

The finances: Pike+Nachbar for Battie works under the APE (115%+100K). The Cavs save 6.5 million dollars in this deal. This would give the Cavs the ability to start a deal around 8 mill with an assumed 45 mill cap.

McInnis is unhappy that the Cavs exercised their 3.6 mill option on him. Brown can be replaced in this deal by just about anyone on the Cavs roster (Ollie, Newble, Wagner, Diop, Pavlovic). I chose Brown as I'd think he makes the least amount of sense in the Cavs' plans.

    We're left with:
    McInnis/Lue
    McGrady/Gaines
    Jackson/Griffin/Brown
    Howard/Taylor/Spoon
    Yao/Battie

12 roster spots taken, With all of the MLE and LLE to spare. We'd also still have about 1 mill in a TE.

I mean signed. 6/68mil. Cleveland failed to pick up his option. See other thread.

Boozer is still a restricted free agent. He signed an offer sheet.

If that's the case, we MUST try to make a deal with Cleveland. Quick.

    NIKEstrad, how about this one:

Part of the TE for Battie

Weatherspoon, Gaines, Griffin for Ollie, Wagner, Diop and a lottery protected first-round pick.

    Pretty shoddy ESPN reporting...

Carlos Boozer and the Utah Jazz have agreed on a six-year, $68 million offer sheet Thursday, ESPN's David Aldridge reports, sending a crushing blow to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who made Boozer an unrestricted free agent with the belief he would re-sign with the team for its mid-level exception.

    Contradictory...but then,

Now Cleveland almost certainly cannot retain Boozer. While the Cavs have the right to match the Utah offer, they are only about $4 million under the current cap and would have to trade and/or renounce the rights to a number of players to clear enough room to sign Boozer.

My deal would give them 10.5 mill in cap space, more than enough to resign Boozer. :)

    SJC- Gaines can't be involved.

    Rearrange it:

    Weatherspoon/Griffin(6.7mx115%+100K=7.81m) for Battie/Ollie (7.5m)
    TE for Wagner/Diop

A few things...Wagner and Diop are very high potential type players, we'd be pulling a a heckuva deal to get one let alone both. I don't like getting Ollie; 4 years for a guy whose probably 3rd string to Lue and someone else on our team. That deal gives us

    ?/Lue/Ollie
    TMac/Wagner/Gaines/Pike
    Jackson/Nachbar
    Howard/Taylor/Battie
    Yao/Diop

Kind of an odd mix imo...

True, odd mix - how about Weatherspoon/Griffin for Battie/McInnis and TE for Wagner/Diop then??

    Any chance they'll bite???

What is CD waiting for? Get Battie, Wegner and a future 1st rounder for the TE. Do it now before Hawks contact them.

I think Battie's and Wagner's contracts together exceed our TE.

Battie for the TE would be nice under normal circumstances.

You have to really squeeze everything out of them - they can't lose Carlos Boozer. Paxson will lose his job if Boozer is gone, he'll do ANYTHING to keep Boozer.

Battie for TE. They still owe us bigtime after this one, so:

Diop and Wagner for Spoon and 2005 first rounder (sine Spalouniss will be coming anyway).

There are so many things we cand o right now. Let's not forget New York would love to have a TE so they can get their hands on Crawford.

Rearrange again: Weatherspoon/Griffin for Battie/Wagner, TE for McInnis/Diop.

I still don't see Cleveland giving up Diop and Wagner...that's 4 contributors for 0 contributors really in order to keep Boozer. I like my deal better- at least they get a couple of shooters. ;)

Guys, another thing to remember- there isn't absolute urgency. The Cavs have 2 weeks to match the offer sheet when it's SIGNED- which won't be nearly for another week (July 14). There's 3 weeks for things to get done.

Hey, they get Weatherspoon and Griffin ;).

Plus, look at it this way...Boozer, Weatherspoon, Griffin or Battie, Wagner, Diop, McInnis...which side of the trade would you choose if you were the Cavs? :)

They put themselves into this situation...we are only here to help! :D

Yeah, but the Hawks won't help them out, the Jazz certainly won't, and the Nuggets won't be able to afford to help them out.

The Hawks won't help them out because they'r rebuilding from scratch, and it would be stupid to take on Battie or Illgauskas. Terry is everything Wagner could become, so they won't do that either.

Their best bet is the Rockets and Clippers. The Clippers would probably like to have Wagner to play alongside Livingston and Jaric, and watch Richardson walk rather than match the 50M offer sheet. They might go for a Wilcox in exchange for Wagner and Battie trade. That would be nice for both sides.

If Boozer goes back to Cleveland, the Cavs pick is worthless. Lebron will be in his second year, McInnis will be there for a full year. They got a good pick in Luke Jackson. Lebron's improvement alone should be enough to put them in the playoffs. They will probably be somewhere around the 6th seed though. Pretty crappy pick.

I say we get in on this. Boozer hasn't SIGNED an offer sheet yet. Maybe he's just pinching the Cavs a bit. We'll know on the 14th for certain.

So what are the possibilities of us going to Utah and try to get something out of them. Obviously, they know we can screw up their deal, would they be willing to give us Arryo, and in return we don't screw them over? :D

NIKE, I like where you are going with using the T.E. But if I am the Rockets I take Wagner over Brown. We are helping out the Cavs by letting them resign Boozer. They need to make it sweet for us as well. For us we are taking Battie and McInnis off their hands. Solid players, but that's it. We need a sweetener and getting a guard like Wagner who could be a spark plug backup PG ala Bobby Jackson would be a nice move. I dont see a future for Kedrick Brown. He is just athletic with no jumpshot. Wagner has more upside. Include him in the deal.

The main reason the Rox should help the Cavs is so Boozer doesn't sign with Utah.
