Is this thread a sign??? Check out this post from Doc Rocket... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5413540&postcount=20
When he carried the Rockets while Yao was injured and averaged 30 a game in 07. Or when he led his team to 22 straight wins and finished in the top 5 for the MVP. Yeah super short memories here...FLAME ON!
Hakeem was pretty good in his day too, but I don't want to sign him either. Well, maybe as a coach. DD
Oh I don't want him back. We don't need him but my point is that everyone severely underrates him after his first season. Hell i'd rather resign Kelvin Cato right now than Mac, but the man's lack of judgement has really tarnished his legacy. It's like noone remembers how good he was and how bad his teams were. It's his fault people think of him like this but is it logical? No....
He could be a good signing at a couple million per year. He was still recovering and out of shape at the end of last year and still put up 10-4-4 in 26 mpg. I see no reason that he can't be a 15-5-5 or better sixth man for the next couple years. The people saying he should be out of the NBA are morons. On one leg while playing his way back into shape last year with NY, he put up basically the same numbers as Kyle Lowry and Shane Battier. mpg ppg pct. rpg apg 26 9.4 38.9 3.7 3.9 24 9.1 39.7 3.6 4.5 32 8.0 39.8 4.7 2.4 I challenge you to look at these stats and tell me one of those players is substantially worse than the other two, and this is for an injured Tmac who will probably improve a lot next year. This forum's immature bias keeps it from seeing that Tmac is one of the best moneyball players we could pick up this season at the price he would come at. A very low risk, high reward move.
Yeah but stats don't tell the whole story. He doesn't have a ''live'' body. No intensity, explosion, lack of lateral movement, all are tools that are needed in playoff basketball. Not to mention potential issues in the locker room.
What do you those stats you cited tell us about what those players are doing when the ball isn't in their hands in a half court set? What does it tell us about what they do on the defensive end? What about how they get up and down in transition? What does it tell us about the leadership and toughness they provide?
I voted yes for the vet's minimum, but I really think we shouldn't even try, it would be like Steve Francis' return, I am ready for a new era of Rockets basketball. It's just sad to see Tmac attempt to play nowadays, cant believe he used to be my favorite player just 5 years ago...
