    What?

    The first year, they had a lot of castoffs, low picks and underperformers and they shocked the world to win it all...after Seattle was drummed by Denver in the first round.

    The 2nd year they were the 6th seed, no team in HISTORY had ever won a championship from that low a seed........

    Come on now, Max...I loved those teams too, but your memory seems to be way off here.

    In case you missed it:

    kiss my white butt. i was there in the Summit watching those title runs, da da. i'm staring at framed tickets from those playoff games in my office as i type this.

    you keep moving the ball in this discussion...first it was that these players sucked on other teams....now you've moved the ball to state how you viewed these players before the season began....two entirely different subjects, da da.

    with drexler....throughout my posts i've said "those championship squads"...Clyde was on one of them...and i recall him being pretty good elsewhere.

    Sorry, DD. But got to agree with Madmax here. The Rockets in 95 were more like the Celtics last year than the current Rockets. They looked incredibly complacent over the regular season, and turned it on in the postseason. If anything, that team was the perfect example of why this is a superstar league, as Hakeem and Clyde were simply unstoppable.

    If you want to make any comparison with the current Rockets team, it would be the Pistons teams.

    Dude we are NOT coming from the same direction, I am saying that neither of those teams were considered favorites to win it.

    The first one...had a bunch of misfits and young players around Dream and Thorpe.

    The 2nd team had to make a big trade during the season (this team could be considered favorites before the season, but after the trade, no).

    And kiss my white butt, really?

    I mean really? WTF is going on here.......people used to be able to disagree without being a total jerk.

    The only comparison I have been trying to make is that the Rockets were not favorites in their championship years, at least not in the first one.

    And that sometimes, teams rise above expectations.

    Man....this is just gone beyond bizzare.....

    THEY WON 55 GAMES THE SEASON BEFORE, DADA!!!!

    They didn't come out of anywhere. Coming in to 1993/1994, they were:

    1. the team with the best player in the game;

    2. the previous year's division champ;

    3. a 55 game winner;

    4. fresh off taking Seattle to OT in the 7th game of the Semifinals.

    You're comparing that to:

    1. last year's lottery squad;

    2. whose best player is nowhere close to being one of the top 5 in the game;

    3. whose best player was injured the entire season before;

    4. whose best player is facing limited minutes going forward this season.

    NO

    COMPARISON

    I kinda thought the whole, "i was 28...judging from your posts you must not remember" crap was pretty jerky...but you shouldn't take "kiss my white butt" too seriously.

    First year we were coming off 55 wins

    Second year we were coming off 58

    Both years we had the best player in the game.

    this team is coming off 42 with its best player hobbling.

    no comparison.

    no kidding. i can't imagine comparing a team fresh off a 55 win, division champ, deep playoff run

    OR

    a 58 win, division champ, WORLD CHAMP

    to a

    42 win team with its best player coming off surgery and a full season out.

    ridiculous.

    Great breakdown DD, I completely agree with everything you said. Except for the last player comparison but it doesn't matter, we are right there and everyone needs to believe and stop doubting.

    I am comparing it to a team that won 53 games and finished ONE GAME out of 2nd place in the Western conference.

    You know the team with a HEALTHY YAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The problem is, that you are completely discounting that possibility, in your version, that is just never going to happen.

    So we will not ever agree, because I think Yao has a good chance of getting back to being healthy......and that team that won 53 games will be BETTER because of all the experience gained by the players last year.

    Look, I still can't believe you said "Kiss my white butt"

    Honestly, was that necessary? I would never say stuff like that to you.

    Man that is fricken rude.

    moving the ball again, DD.

    they weren't the 6th seed when the 1994/95 season started. they were defending World Champs.

    it's difficult to have a discussion when you keep moving the parameters of the conversation.

    Yes, I concur that they were one of the favorites THAT year, but the ball has always been about the first year for me.....

    That team was not a favorite, it was a contender, and I think this team, with a healthy Yao, is a contender.

    Apology accepted, but with all the people cursing each other and calling folks idiots or morons or cussing each other out these days, I just take everyone words for what they say.....

    At the end of the day, I am getting really tired of taking the high road....

    i wish i could find odds...because my guess is they would have easily been in Vegas' top 5 to win the title...maybe 3. Knicks/Suns/Sonics/Rox is my guess.

    this current bunch ain't that way, no matter how much i wish it were different.

    Fair enough, so, let me ask you something, say that team was top 4 to win the championship and the current one is like...top 7.....

    Would that eliminate a comparison for you?

    Because to me, that would be comparible.

    there's huge difference in degrees. make a list of all the teams in the NBA...now separate them out drawing bright lines between those with top chances....one jump down is a significant difference.

    but i highly doubt this Rox squad will be in the top 7, DaDa. barring some major movement. Vegas isn't going to gamble on Yao as willingly as you are.

    Let me ask you this, do you think that we can compete with the Lakers barring Yao comes back healthy?

    We did after all take them to seven games without the big fella.

    no...i don't think we can. certainly stranger things have happened and it's not outside the realm of possibility....but i certainly wouldn't feel good about a matchup with the LA Lakers, even though I'd love rooting for the Rox against them. one of my favorite playoff series of all times is one where we were swept out of the first round by the Lake Show with a scrappy bunch that included the newly added, Vernon Maxwell. fun season with a team that busted ass.

    i think that Lakers group we lost to a year back was a lazy bunch who turned it off and turned it on when they wanted. when they wanted, they blew us the flip out.
