As a rocket fan, Id love to have him back As a Battier fan, I wanna see him win a title and I don't see him doing that here But the Rocket fan in me out weighs the Battier fan in me! lol
He can start for teams that don't have better options. Ideally,he should be coming off the bench. He isn't a Rocket anymore. I know that's hard for you to digest. We need to go in a newer direction. I'm not keen about Thabeet, but it would have better to replace Battier with Iggy who could have fit in as a 3 because of his athleticism and decent size in Houston. Shane is still useful, but he is gradually declining.
No. We already have too many white players, with Budinger and now Dragon. And for those of you that don't think Shane is white, his momma is white, his wife is white, he talks white, and he ain't got no dunk. Did you see Shane at the Karioke event singing Neil Diamond?
How would you know it's hard for me to digest? I haven't said anything negative about the trade and have no problem with it. I've actually said for more than a year that this is when i expected him to be traded. I just think it's ridiculous for someone to say they don't want him back at all under any circumstance. He wasn't a cancer and despite what people may think about his skills, or lack thereof, it's undeniable that he's got more experience than anyone on this team (except Miller), he's got their respect, knowledge to pass around, and still capable of being a solid back up. Any vet that can provide that to a young team should be welcomed at the right price.
Shane Battier is a consummate professional and should retire a Rocket. I'd love to see him on the bench as an assistant with the Houston coaching staff someday, eventually moving to the front office, maybe stealing Morey's job.
Morey could do the supermegatrade at this draft, you never know. Then, suddenly, you got a star, you got flexibility to sign some good FA/s, added to a 40 win team, a possible Yao's comeback... At this tituation Morey could call him to say, hey, we have something interesting right here again...
I have always liked what Shane brought to the team. It's my opinion that you need guys like Shane to win a title. This being said, it's time to let him go. The Rockets aren't playing for a title any time soon, so let him hook up with a contender. Maybe Shane will be back with the orginization in some capacity after his playing days, that I would like.
For the right price, HELLLLLLLLL YES. His IQ is through the roof (unlike all the posters who do not want him back), he is a great leader. He is the type of guy any team would be lucky to have. I really feel that this deal was probably the only good trade in the history of Chris Wallace's GM of the Grizzlies (well maybe the Randolph deal, don't remember what they gave up).
Tomorrows game will prove what this team has with no Battier. If not a couple of games will. I think the team is still traumatized and probably thinking about if they get moved this off season or not.
His wife is a babe. More enthusiasum wouldn't be remiss, but is not required... you being, of course, the thadeus.
