No. For Shane's sake, I want him to go to the Bulls, Heat, Lakers, or Thunder so he can win a championship.
Would I want him back? Absolutely! Do I think it's best for the team at this time? No! We're in rebuilding mode, and with Shane gone (God bless him) it opens up time for our younger guys to get more playing time. All Shane can do on the offensive end is shoot 3's from the corner, and the occasional hook shot off of a post up. Without someone drawing constant double teams in the middle, which could get him open 3's, he just doesn't fit on our team at this time. Shane is a great guy, possibly my favorite player because of his great attitude, and as much as I'd love to see him playing for the Rockets, I just don't think it's in his, or our, best interest. That being said, if he was willing to take a big pay cut (2-3m/year) then I would almost definitely bring him back, just for his leadership. I'm just not sure if he would want to come back after saying how much he loved it here and wanted to stay, then getting shipped off. I'm sure he also wants to at least have a shot at a championship, and he's smart enough to see that's not very likely here. I'd bring him back at the right price, but being realistic I would not bring him back, for our sake and his. Pugs
Superstar and expiring contract next season. A good each way bet. Rockets can get better pieces than they have now if they trade him at the trade deadline. Rockets maintain their 2012 cap room.
Fallacious response. (1) Battier's been here 5 years. Hayes has been here similarly as long and Scola hangs out with the guy. (2) Shane's nowhere that good to be missed that badly. He's the most outspoken guy on the team by far. That sets the mood.
I would rather have Iggy replacing him for good. If Shane wants to come back,I would be ok with it for 5M for 3 years but not more than that.
Fallacious response is correct. Shane is gradually declining, although he is still useful. Thabeet is garbage, sorry to say. Unless he proves me wrong.
People need to unlock their lips off Shane and Yao's ass and let it go. Bringing them back would be the exact opposite of what the Rockets need to do.
Only for cheap, and mainly off the bench, but that is probably the last thing I'd worry about. I do think it's pretty invaluable though to have a couple solid, vocal, and high-character veterans on a rebuilding team. Otherwise you're the Wizards, who have absolutely no work ethic, no learning from example, and no motivation to get better.
I like Shane and think he would be a good asset for a contending team or as a coach. I would not want him back on the Rockets as a starter for sure.
Mmmmhhhhhmm. Some more of that intangible goodness please. All of those stats and manly hand in face defense. Lets unfold the rug again for Shane "the Kobe dominator" Battier. Forget Twills minutes and draft picks at his position, or Budingers development. Lets go old again and really tweak those pesky Lakers with our threatening them with us possibly making the 8th seed and have them shaking in their boots at the thoughts. Then those wonderful after game interviews after the loss. Bill Worrel and Drexler can expound on his virtues endlessly to our hearts delights as we dwell in the almost season once again.
Shane will not be back in a Rockets uniform. The organization has picked a new direction headlined by Hasheem Thabeet. Shane's contributions are no longer needed now that we've acquired such a special talent.
Of course I would want him back, who doesn't love Shane. I wonder if he will be willing to come back after being traded though.
I'd love to have Shane back. Even in a rebuilding situation he'd be great off the bench or mentoring younger players. Every team needs good veterans, not just the championship contenders. But the new CBA, whether it brings a hard cap or lowers the old one, makes it unlikely for him to return.
There is a possibility the Rockets might have some cap room going into next season. The huge variable is the new CBA. On the assumption that the Rox will have in the $10M range, most good players worth having will eat into that amount quickly. (An assumption of renouncing Yao's contract is embedded in the cap space). Consequently, unless Battier really really really wants to maintain a Houston residence, he's likely to get an offer in excess of what's left of the cap space. (And no...you can't go under the cap and then get an MLE once your payroll rises back up...at least, that's the way the current CBA is structured). He'd be OK as a rotational (very low cost) player. But it is really time to put the entire Yao/Grady era in the rear view mirror.
Shane is 32. The Rockets are going with youth now so I doubt they'd be willing to spend a lot on him. Time for Williams, Lee and Budinger to show their stuff.
IIRC you weren't a big fan of battier, but I think this is the correct answer for fans to give, whether you wanted him gone or not, so props for that. I don't get the "no way" or "absolutely not" answers. Every young team needs vets on their squad. The more they respect them, the better. i get not wanting him back in a starting role, since that's not the direction to go. i get not wanting him back at a high price, but I don't see the problem in getting him back in a reduced role to mainly help guide and mentor the young guys. Besides, he's definitely a solid back up. Isn't that what some people have been claiming, that's he's just a back up? Now all of a sudden he doesn't even deserve a roster spot?
