seriously this is silly you guys comparing people like chuck and KG to horry. its not like there is going to be a day where the committee is going to have to make a choice between those 3 guys and allow only one in. Chuck and KG are in and (isnt chuck already?) and will be first ballot HOFers if not. I think Horry will make it but not as a first ballot, this isnt the NBA hall of fame its basketball hall of fame, they let in a bunch of players/officials/coaches from leagues from across the world that the average fan doesnt know about. (yeah ask an average fan from a different country if they know the NBA player on the ballot or the guy from the austrailian league?) Bottom line for me Horry has had an amazing unique career, but no means was he a coattail rider on any of those teams that won championship. Granted last year though he didnt hit a big shot he changed the momentum of the suns/spurs series by issuing a hard foul (made look worse by nash's theatrics afterward, i didnt think it was cheap heck that would have been laughed at by the likes of mahorn and lambeer). He was sending a message to nash and the suns. How many times will we see another prolific scorer on a terrible team? All the team there is no question that there are plenty of players who make the league because of their offensive skills and end up scoring around 20ppg because someone on the team has to. I mean i am sure you can even players like Tyrone Hill and Chris Gatling made all-star teams (and Horry hasnt) but would you want a Tyrone Hill on your team or a Robert Horry? I dont think anyone of us will see a guy like Robert Horry ever again players like him are just as hard to find as the next Hakeem or Tmac
Nope. Not hall-worthy. He deserves credit for his Rockets playoff success and his rings with the Spurs and Lakers...but he isn't a HOF And I really love Horry, but he isn't a hall of famer. Not by a long shot If they had a "Role Player Hall of Fame", he would be inducted in the first class
I love Robert Horry for his contributions to the Rockets. That said, he isn't a good enough basketball player to be worthy of the HOF.
Again: see Thomas "Satch" Sanders. He had similar numbers to Horry and has one more ring. But he's NOT in the Hall of Fame. Those Celtics championships were no accident. They had quality role players to go with their legendary big names. Robert Horry is ALSO a quality role player. But if Satch isn't in, there's no way Horry's getting in. And don't give that crap about it being the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame. Three words: GUY V. LEWIS The average fan nowadays might not know that name either, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the Hall. Hell, the average UH student doesn't even know his name, and that's just freaking pathetic.
don't forget jojo white. anyhoo, I voted No because the Basketball Hall of Fame is more than just about Championships and a fist full of jewelry. What is his lasting impact on the game of basketball? Sleep walking in the regular season, and showing up for 25 games in May and June. I know people here are in love with the Rockets Championship, but it was over a decade ago. They hold a special place in my lifetime. 1994 was a cool year for me for different reasons, and of course one being the Rockets. I don't see people in Chicago still celebrating the 1908 World Series Championship.
Exactly. Unless you're one of the greatest college coaches of all-time. Then it's ONLY about championships.
no, and this debate is dumb. it's never gonna happen. there is absolutely no precedent for a guy like Horry to get into the HOF. While we're at it, who wants to vote John Salley into the HOF?
K.C. Jones averaged 7.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds for his career, he was elected into the Hall of Fame as a player in 1989.
Players who gave it their best for 48 minutes deserves the HALL. Don't know much about his Lakers and Spurs days, but when he almost spent time in Detroit I wasn't upset about loosing him. As far as I'm concern, Horry was never a "give (effort) 100% for 100% of the time" guy. And that will always leave a bad taste in my mouth. HOF for him is like congratulating me for skipping school on tuesday and wednesday and finally raising my hand for a correct answer on friday. Hogwash. The above is just my feelings about Horry and the HOF. He's still a great ROCKET though.
Let's allow Robert Horry to answer that question: "In the Ongoing Disintegration of Sports Values department, check out the March 13 edition of ESPN The Magazine. Dan Le Batard writes an article about NBA veteran Robert Horry, clutch big game player (his nickname is Big Shot Bob) and owner of six championship rings earned with the Rockets, Lakers and Spurs, but never an A-list star player. Turns out Horry would trade all those championships for the chance to be a superstar. Writes Le Batard: "Would you rather have your career or Charles Barkley's, Big Shot Bob? 'Barkley's,' Horry says. 'You want to win a championship, but you want to be considered one of the best of all time. All-Star. Hall of Fame. Even though I won championships, I'd take Charles' career." And doesn't that just sum up the NBA's (and most of professional sports') biggest problem. Everybody wants to be The Man. Hardly anybody wants to Just Win Baby if it means minimizing their time in the spotlight. There is no "I" in team but who really cares anymore. Horry, by the way, is the same guy that just last night bit an opposing player on the hand in an on-court tussle during a game. Nice. He's just loaded with great messages for young players." http://integrityinyouthsports.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Yeah, the problem is guys want to be the best, terrible. I can't believe someone wrote that, not to mention the fact that Bob was/is a role player so the fact that he wants to be a superstar apparently had no bearing on breaking up his six rings. i guess the writer is implying he should have twelve
So? He got in as a player. Why? He was a great defensive player who happened to play with Bill Russell his entire career and got 9 rings because of that fact. Horry was a great clutch player who happened to play with Hakeem, Shaq, and Duncan and got at least 7 rings because of that fact. Much better players from that era like Guy Rogers, Chet Walker and Lou Hudson aren't in the Hall of Fame because their careers weren't as successfully unique as Jones'. Horry might be held out for 15 years before induction like K.C. Jones was, but eventually he'll get in and a bunch of better players from his era won't because they didn't win as much as Horry did. Oh well.
not really. Laker fans, Spurs fans, and Rockets fans will be happy. I guess the people who find it sad are people who aren't Rockets fans, Spurs fans, or Laker fans.
I disagree completely. While I would be happy if Robert Horry made the Hall of Fame, the Hall would lose credibility in my eyes. And once again, I love Horry and was 17 and 18 years old and a die hard Rox fan during the back to back years. Hell, I even named a dog "Rudy"
I'm a rockets fan, and just because a guy played here doesn't mean he should make the HOF no matter how undeserving he is. It would be just as much a disgrace if cassell made it as if horry made it
Cassell had an incredible career. He was #2 in the league in assists one year and is an All Star. He took the Clippers PAST THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS. That feat alone is worth noting in the HOF.
the NBA is where AMAZING Happens. and Robert Horry is part of that. Anything to give more fame to the members of the Championship team is welcomed.
