It depends on the woman. I think Ann Richards would be an excellent candidate, but I wouldn't vote for Hillary or Rice. I also wouldn't vote for a woman whose husband ran the same political office either. It feels like she isn't pulling the strings and she's going by with her name alone.

I wouldn't vote for a woman during wartime, but I would during peacetime. Honestly, I don't think she would get the respect of world officials in a time of need (such as Sec. of State Madeline Albright)

Anyone remember Margaret Thatcher? From Time magazine's 100 most influential people issue:

But Thatcher became a world figure for more than just her politics. She combined a flamboyant willpower with evident femininity. It attracted universal attention, especially after she led Britain to a spectacular military victory over Argentina in 1982. She understood that politicians had to give military people clear orders about ends, then leave them to get on with the means. Still, she could not bear to lose men, ships or planes. "That's why we have extra ships and planes," the admirals had to tell her, "to make good the losses." Fidelity, like courage, loyalty and perseverance, were cardinal virtues to her, which she possessed in the highest degree. People from all over the world began to look at her methods and achievements closely, and to seek to imitate them.

I didn't agree with her politics, but she was never lacking in respect from other world leaders simply because of her gender.

But didn't she bring that into spotlight to detract her people from the recession their country was in? Regardless, she was deft in maneuvering attention and issues.

I wonder how she would do against a millitary power capable of destroying her country. If you ask me if Thatcher was capable of staring down China and forcing their hand on the issue of Taiwan, I'd probably still say no. Then again, few men could do so either...

Thatcher rocked. Maybe not her domestic policies, but she wasn't called the Iron Lady for nothing. She could stand up to China, no doubt. She was a female Reagan. They would be totally afraid of her.
