Hillary is ... and will continue to be ... as divisive as Bush the Younger -- perhaps even more so. I tend to be a moderate (ultra conservative on this board ) but even I can't conceal a visceral dislike for her. If she wins, we will continue the Bush years of infighting and petty squabbling. However, if you enjoy seeing stalwarts from each party trying to feed on the opposition's entrails for another four to eight years, she's your babe. I already know I'll look like a fund-raising guru using Hillary as the evil that lurks in the gloom.
There was similarly visceral dislike of Bill before, after and during his administration too. The difference between his admin (and Hillary's potential admin) and Bush's is that Bush was not just disliked for his divisive personality, chronic dishonesty and stubborn leadership style but for his universally disastrous policies. Hillary wouldn't have that problem. As a result she would probably leave office with approval ratings similar to her husband's, especially against the backdrop of these last several years.
And now for something completely different! From the WTF!?!?!?! file -- Lynne Cheney: ‘Dick and Barack Obama are eighth cousins.’ In an MSNBC interview today, host Norah O’Donnell asked Lynne Cheney her views on Sen. Hillary Clinton’s (D-NY) presidential campaign and whether “America is ready for a woman president.” Cheney replied that she actually has a “certain bias”: When asked if that means she’s “for Barack Obama,” Cheney replied, “No.” Watch it: http://thinkprogress.org/2007/10/16/lynne-cheney-dick-and-barack-obama-are-eighth-cousins/ Does that mean that Cheney went to a Madrassa?
I never thought I'd say it, but reviewing the caliber of the 2008 candidates from both parties, I'd consider it.
Considering her penchant for corruption, I'm sure she'd follow in Bill's impeachment footsteps -- only hers would be deserved rather than over some stupid BJ. Run, Bill, run -- but first get that contented smile off your face. In all seriousness, Bill Clinton wasn't scorned until later in his Presidency. Up until his second term he was merely not loved among Republicans.
If Bush isn't impeached by a Dem Congress, you can bet Hillary won't be -- especially since Democrats will add seats in both houses in 08.
You're right about one thing thumbs. Considering the way republicans lost their minds hating Bill, one can only imagine the vitriol towards Hillary if she won the presidency.
There is always a certain fringe from each party that goes there on every election. Heck, I know people who thought Jimmy Carter would be the new Joseph Stalin. Some years the fringes are a little more ragged.
Hum.... Would that have been the 6 year, $40 million dollar, Ken Starr investigation fringe of the party?
True, isn't a comet supposed to end the world in 2012 according to Mayan (or Incan?) prophecy? I'm not up on my non-Biblical end of the world scenarios, although I may have finished reading the Patriot Act by then.
GOP didn't do anything spectacular in 1996, fielding a weak presidential candidate in Bob Dole and losing to Clinton by almost a landslide. The GOP revolution, if you will, was the one led by Newt Gingrich in 1994 mid-term election when they took control of both chambers of the Congress. Man I can't believe I was almost like a Rush Limbaugh ditto head back then.
The pendulum is swing fast in the other direction now, thanks in great part to the Bush administration.
