Yao, Howard, VSpan, Sura for KG, Craig Smith and McCants...We may be able to get Foye instead of Mccants but the Wolves would need cash consideration...
If not KG...I would call Indiana and see about Jermaine O'Neal. He has about 2 years on Garnett. O'Neal provides athleticism that Yao does not. He's also a good shot blocker. See what else you can get out of Indiana.
If I'm Daryl Morey, looking over my roster to see what is the single most overvalued (by the NBA market) item I can trade for less glitzy but more effective personnel, that item is Yao Ming. He has all the selling points: "Potential," global star appeal, freakish size, great work ethic, #1 pick, no current injuries. He has all the defects: bad fit for current NBA rules, interferes (inadvertently) with performance of his teammates, lacks fire, plays better in regular season than playoffs, and, due to unimprovable foot speed and vertical, covers far less space defensively and on the boards than his size suggests. Remember when we traded Francis at the peak of his value? I hate to be cold (well, actually, I love to be cold), but using the same logic, now is the time to trade Yao. And all of you who think he's going to keep getting better because he's a big man, and you can't teach size, etc., are exactly the kind of GMs I'd be counting on to offer us good value for him.
the only player i would even think about giving Yao up for is Amare. KG is great, but he is up there in age. couple that with Tmac's back situation, we could be a rebuilding team in no time. If you give up Yao, get talented youth with potential...which is what Yao is. for those of you wanting to trade Yao, would you guys trade Yao for this year's #1 and maybe some role players or extra picks? and with that pick select Greg Oden.
I would...if I was playing NBA LIVE 07 and I got Kobe, KG, Nashin return. Hell no, I would not trade Yao.
Obviously there are two sides to this question--the business side and the basketball side. From a business point of view, Yao is the most untradeable player in the entire NBA. He brings in a lot of revenue and attention to the franchise and is pretty much every owner's dream player ot have. From a basketball point of view, however, Yao's style of play does not fit well with today's NBA. The league today has changed to focus on speed and quickness and Yao is physically limited in those departments. Teams can easily exploit Yao's weaknesses by forcing him to guard a mobile and athletic player on the perimeter. I think it all comes down to the question that we must all ask ourselves -- can we win a championship in today's NBA with Yao Ming as our franchise player? If the answer is no, we have to consider trading Yao no matter how difficult it is.
amen. i can only hope 'market appeal' and financial considerations don't deter this franchise from going after the only selling point that truly matters: championships.
WE CAN'T TRADE YAO. I do not like him but...he is one of the best C in that leauge. We cannot trade him because we won't find that big man anymore. There are a lot great PF in that leauge but I really wanna see Garnett in Rockets. But remember: YAO IS NOT A LEADER
Trading Yao would significantly lower the Houston Rockets overall value. I think Les will eventually sell the Rockets while Yao is here, and realize a massive profit, he is/was a trader after all. Buy low - Sell High. DD
Those who said Yao can't fit today's NBA forget how dominant Yao was before the injury. The Yao we saw in the playoff was not 100% at all. The pre-injured Yao would have performed much better for us. So I don't see it a good idea to give up on Yao now.
hell yes i would do it, but no way in hell twolves would do that trade. the most likely scenario would be yao, juwon, rafer, and head for KG and randy foye, but i'd still do it in a heartbeat.
You know... he's not all just commercial value. Yao can ball. I just don't think this year was indicative of his ability.
You're comparing the importance of Francis to our franchise to that of Yao's . Good guards come in litters, yet good big men are rare commodities.
Absolutely he can play, I am just saying that Yao's career will not last forever, and once he leaves the overall value of the Rockets will drop as well. I just think that Les realizes this as it is a BUSINESS after all, and will sell the business while Yao is at his peak. No chance of trading Yao.... DD
