Why everyone think Yao played much worse than Cato last night? Yao, 11 pts, 2 blocks in 15 minutes. Cato, 14 pts, 6 rebs (only), 4 blocks in 33 minutes. Well Yao played better than Cato in Stats!
Why is everyone so down on Yao?? He only had two bad games. I can't believe how fickle alot of you are. Yao is the future of this franchise, and is having an excellent year. Trading him would be the biggest mistake the Rockets ever made. It's not gonna happen.
I honestly had no idea how much this had degenerated into two hostile camps until I read this thread...I am amazed and dissapointed.
I agree with you on some of your points. I don't like to see people caring only about Yao and not the whole team - though the two cannot "really" be seperated. But that is life - there are Steve-Only and Kobe-Only fans out there too you know. But you are completely wrong (because I can see you were speaking on emotions rather than using your head) when you said "If a player has it, he will prevail in any offensive system. If Yao Ming cant be a great player here, then he'll never be a great player". I don't need to expain much but think about the following players; Matt Harpring Chauncey Billups Mario Ellie Jermaine O'neal Earl Boykins Gordan Giricek Richard Hamilton Ben Wallace Bobby Jackson Keith Van Horn A specific sytem made the following players better than we thought they really are; Shandon Anderson Pipen Byron Russel Toni Kukoc Stars or much better in their former teams; Rick Fox (Boston Celtics) Lee Nailon (Hornets) Damon Stoudermire (Toronto) Agreed! True superstars will prevail in 'most places or systems (but they are only a hand full in this league). Hall of Famer Calvin put it best - every team is not for everybody. And I damn sure know that CMurph know one or two things more about basketball than you. This is why a "team" is built and not otherwise.
Cato had 6 blocks, get your facts straight first before you embarass yourself even further. Considering Cato shot 6 for 7 from the field, I'd say he was more effective and productive than yao ming last game.
The Rockets won a pair of championships with a center who's game was agility and finesse, course Hakeem was quite a bit stronger than Yao. I really think all that time at Fonde, helped Hakeem (then Akeem) to become the legend he is. Rudy and now Larry, have a little more on their minds than how to showcase "The Next Big Thing" to his best advantage....marketing potential and selling T-Shirts to Asian-American and other American kids aside, 30 years of Houston sports history has proven that the way to put fannies in the seats at Compaq and the new crib, is to make the playoffs...then win playoff games. Yao is a rookie, he has shown he can help the team, and the sky is the limit potential wise...his day will come, and I hope it comes here in Houston, I certainly wouldn't consider trading him unless it was for a young league MVP candidate or something. Lets enjoy the playoff chase, and if a few Yao-only fans want to come along for the ride, so be it. Its not like we don't have some of our own homegrown bandwagoners. I myself was a fan through the pre Twin Towers, atrrocious years where we would have been happy to win 30. Lets go Rockets.
Dude, it ain't 2 camps, it's 3: The few brave Rox fans like Jeff, the hordes of Yao only fans (some are bold enough go admit) like Yun and the hordes of Yao haters/trolls (raytiger, poly). And it ain't this thread that divided them, they've been there all along.
if I am the GM of rockets, I would really looking for a good deal to trade yao. In today's NBA, stregnth is a lot more important than skills especially at the position of center, you should have noticed this when shaq keep dunking on Yao. Yao will peak at 18 ppg if he is lucky and not injured.
If Yao gets traded to Dallas for Bradley, The Mavs will win 75+ games next year. The only player on the Mavs I would even bother consider trading Yao for is Nowitski.
What?! You wouldn't seriously consider trading Yao for Bradley?! BRADLEY didn't just have 3 poor games, now did he?! Forget trading Yao, let's imprison the b@st@rd! And, uh, it's Shaq's COMBINATION of strength and skill that have made him the MDE. Someday, the GC will be able to test him fully.
yes, I completely agree, I am interested in the rocket because of Yao Ming. and Yao ming will be the next MD center with right coach and players. there are will be a lot of changes in the off season...... if rudy is not able to coach next year, they need to fire larry smithh and find a new coach who know how to develope a center base sysytem all of players should be consider to trade........
Haha... Good observation! Honestly, I am starting to become a rocket fan too. It is just bother me that a lot of people who label themself as "true" rocket fans seem to imply that a "true" rocket fan need to hate "Yao Ming". If that is the case, why not depart for a win-win situation. Realisticly, though, I think that we will be stuck together for a while. (may be for the whole of Yao's carrer) By that time, hopefully, a "true"rocket fan definition will include the love for Yao Ming too. Anyway, Yao is a poor kid, he is either hyped up beyond belief or trashed talked to the lowest level. He does not even finish his rookie seaon or have a chance to develop himself and people are all over him. I have a faith in him, though and hope that some reasonable rocket fans will do so. Later!
stop listening to shaq and not worry about how yao is goinf to do, he will grow with this team and we be good enough to do some special things
and i guess yao needs to shoot the bal 50 times too huh, why even have the other 4 players out there cuz yao is the man and its his team anyway right??? i mean nba teams always give the teams to a rookie, i mean look at the cavs the nuggets and all those other teams that have a monopoly on the nba lotto. you need to take some medicine cuz you got mad yao disease.
uh yao got stuck with the rockets??? hmmm interesting. a true rocket fan loves the team no matter who is playing, with or without yao, with or without steve... i loved the rockets before they got here i will love them way after they retire as rockets too. yao didnt get stuck with the rockets, we got blessed with having the number one pick and everything that comes with that(like drafting yao) i love yao because i know he will be great( how great only time will tell) and i also love everyone else on the rockets squad. and all the people that hate on yao its because of people like you who really dont care about the team all they care about is yao(or at least thats the impression i and a lot of other get). but like you said i hope you become a rocket fan so we can share in the pain and joy that is a rocket fan.
Some article says that Rox has the second worst revenue last year, but this year, the Rox has the second HIGHEST revenue due to Yao. If this is the case, I am afraid Yao is not going to be traded.
You know that is not entirely, true, don't you? I think it is a balance. Yao was hate by some even before he became the No#1 pick. He got hate because he was No#1 pick. Some people just simply glad when he was struggle at first. They simply hate him, period. So, then there are some people that like him and when he has proved himself, they hyped him up. (actually too much) However, if I were to choose between the two, I would love to be in the second group. As for the rocket's fan definition, I think you definition is the most correct one. That would apply for a long time fans and may be Houstonians. However, what will bring you to become a fan of any team, if you not live in that town? To me it is either the players or the team excellent performance. The rocket, the current team, does not have excellent performance yet. Therefore, people are more interested in the players, either it be Francise, Mobley or Yao. It happens that Yao attracts a lot of new people to become interested in the rocket. They watch the games, learn more about the rocket's past, its other players and coaches. They came to the rocket MB to leran that thay are barred out because they like Yao Ming first? (therefor unqualify as a rocket fan?) On top of that, they learn that proclaimed rocket fans do not like their favorite players and bashing him? As a new rocket fan, if I would be acceptted , I think that the team need to find the best strategy to win using Yao Ming or not. They have to figure out which way to go. If they decide to not use a center oriented strategy then trading Yao for a better player to suit a guard oriented strategy may be a better way to go. If they want a physical type center and Yao cannot give them one, trading him is also reasonable. As a Yao's fan, I do not wish to see him as a bench player while the rocket do not want to use him. So for him to move to other team that want to use him would be fine for me. However, I do believe that the rocket want to use him and both him and the rocket will be fine in the future. Go Yao! Go Rocket!
