Oh, Rocket River. I love Yao but ....... I would seriously ponder on it if the deal is on the table and I think my final decision would be a 'Yes, just do it'.
um sure. i watch the playoffs and i have not seen him dominate one game. 25/10 v. the 90s big men => all-time. 25/10 v. today's big men => he better do it. bron is an all-timer performer already bro. him along w/ tmac, ridiculous. bron and tmac are both the best passers at their position and they can score w/ the best of them.
i would trade yao for lebron in a heartbeat. no questions asked. too bad the cavs would never do it in a million years
man what is wrong with this board lets ride on this wagon because it is going to be going for a long ride as long as we stay healthy. leave these ideas to the media cause it is all just for publicity
I dont think it matters if YOU would or not. Rockets management isnt. Think of how much revenue with China Yao brings in. I would file this one under NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. Just my opinion.
Yao had 3.48 TO/game last year Kobe had 3.31 TO/game last year You'd give the big man up for 0.17 TO/game?
Yao for Kobe would be stupid because Kobe+Tmac=trouble. But I'm starting to think that we really missed the boat in not trading Yao for Garnett when we had the chance. Garnett in Yao's place would mean minimum 65 wins.
THat's a interesting theory. What revenue outside of the endorsements? Less than 95% of the nba fans in CHina can afford the authentic gear. Second, why would they purchase it when they can purchase a cheap knock off at a fraction of the cost? $40 rmb vs $500+ rmb for a jersey is a big deal when your average household income is roughly $1,000 rmb a month. I know the big shoe companies are trying to penetrate the market here, but shoes that cost $700+ rmb isn't going to fly. Would you pay $500 usd for a shoe or jersey in the states?
Currently Ads revenue in TC, and probably scant jesey sales in China. But the potential is big. Jersey sales are going to fly. I think the trend year by year is like something exponential. If there are a 100 million fans out there, which is not far fetched, opptunities are limitless.
I know he had spectacular game 5 against the Pistons last season. But he wasn't exactly dominating in the series. He played about average for him. he didn't set the world on fire, like Wade did his first two playoff runs. And the East isn't known for it's great competition with exception 4 or 5 teams. Terrible Conference, I am sure Yao or the Rockets would look like a juggernaut, if placed in the Eastern COnference the last 4 or 5 years. He's hasn't reached the same levels of M.J., Magic, or Bird, yet. It's very questionable to say he has been magnificient in playoffs, especially when his team got swept from the finals and almost put no fight whatsoever. On the other hand, Yao has not dominated in the playoffs neither has team, you need good team to go deep into playoffs. Also for having an above average or a even great big man doesn't always gurantee an automatic Finals appearance. Especially when they are probably 2 to 4 teams who are (or were) an all-round better than the Rockets. In all of Yao's playoff eliminations, have been by pretty good teams...first he was eliminated by Lakers team (with Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton) who went the FInals later in playoffs and were about one season removed for Finals. Next year, the Rockets were an underdog against the highly touted and very deep Dallas Mavericks who eventually went to Finals in the next season. This past season, the Rockets lost to a Utah team which went straight to WCFs.
Yao merchandise sales don't matter because of revenue sharing. He helps the general exposure of the team and ticket sales, which make them more valuable for Les Alexander when he chooses to sell the team. It's no coincidence that Donald Sterling of the Clippers has made a profit every year with a cheap approach while owners of more successful teams are in the red.
his playoff stats are 25, 8, 7, not as great as tmac, but those are eye-popping. i didn't say he has reached those guys, obviously not. no way in hell after just one run through the weak east. but he has dominated playoff games, yao hasn't.
For those of ya arguing Bron is better than Yao, hence trade Yao for Bron. The point is not who is better. There are a dozen of players are more dominant than Yao in this league. Heck, Boozer is proably more dominant than Yao. But yall are ignoring the importance of post presence. Unless, yall saying LeBron is Jordan, which I dont see it in him, post presence is vital to a championship team. Again, Yao's once every 20 year kind. It's much easier to build around Yao, IMO.
I will say he hasn't all time great type of game, but to his credit he has pretty good games. 1. This past playoffs against the Jazz, he did have decent games and 25-30 ppg and 12 -15 rebs. He had a few double double games like that. 2. The year against the Mavs, he had his way for the most part against the team, our team just wasn't good enough to beat that Mavs team with him and T-Mac and under average players. 3. His first year in playoffs was against Mr. You Know who, the most dominate center in about the last 20 years, and held his own pretty good against Shaq, Yao was dominated at all in series, like many would expect. Shaq was 3x defending champion and still the most dominate player in the league at time. Give it some time, he has only had 3 playoff appearance while the other two seasons he was injured and a rookie.
