I wouldn't be shocked if either got max dollars, even though that is overpaying both for on court production.

Fair enough. What wing player. Wade? Chances are at minimum. Joe Johnson?
    Would not be enough.
At least with Yao you could play with shooters and slashers who can score off him. Joe Johnson types would have done it.

    i can't agree more
the Rockets were a nightmare for other teams when we had Hakeem, because he was simply unstoppable and could play in any spot on the floor
Yao is limited to play in the paint
we cannot win a champ relying on him, we need either a T-Mac like player who makes the difference, or a solid team surrounding him even without a superstar like were the 1994 Rockets

One condition I would take Gasol as the Number 1 option.
Extend his range to beyond the arc. Play like Dirk.

I think the objective answer would be "yes".

Gasol is a player that can fit adelman system very well, is younger than Yao, is a very durable player also. Plus, he doesn't come of a nearly career ending surgery.

Game wise i think Gasol has a superiour offensive arsenal than Yao, and while Yao seems more effective when on fire, Gasol is much more difficult to take out of games due to his speed. Defensively i think they are even as Yao is a better ring protector but an awfull pnr defender.

I think Gasol and Scola would combine for one of the fastest frontcourts in the league.

T-Mac is the type of player that can lead the team to a championship
Yao's easily locked by defense in the playoffs
With T-Mac and an athletic center or a real "clutch" players like 94 rockets would give us back the champ

That's why we had help defenders?! God. People get over the j*zz Series.
We would be in the second round with one more rebound or role players who can score. Match up problems are everywhere. Gasol is slow footed and not good at PNR defense either. LOL. What makes you think he is fast? The only thing he's consistently good at was his midrange J. Juwan anyone? Ok. He could block some shots but he's still slow.

Take off the homervision glasses. Gasol is much more than a consistent midrange jumper. He is a very fast PnR player, has a variety of moves to take his defender both back to the basket and off the dribble.
I see him as a bigger version of Scola.

Well. LOL. What do we see there. July comes before September. Wow. Gasol is younger when he is in fact born 2 months earlier.

    ya u're right!
i feel that people here consider Yao as untouchable!!
we gotta face the truth, yes he is solid, but not enough to rely on him
Gasol type with T-Mac is what we need
with that said, Yao is overrated

Another thing that makes Yao overrated in Houston is simply that his backup is 6'6 inches. I mean you just can not replace that 1 foot. Gasol defense may not be that good but at 7' 1 he can still alter some shots and grab enough rebounds to help the rockets on Defense.

I'm just going to be realistic. Big Z did get the surgery, and he is able to play without injuries, but he sure looks slower, and we have no other examples of anyone coming back from this. As a fan I want the Rockets to win now. If not personally the best option would be to maybe trade yao for expiring contracts. If we had mcgrady and yao off the books we would have more cap space than any team for 2010. I would love to have Dwayne Wade..

I mean Every year the Rockets make 1 move that makes us all think that we are going to win the championship. And every year they don't even come close to winning the championship. Gotta know when to say when and start with something fresh. Can't have 2 injury prone players.

At least back up your comments with real stats.
Seriously, Yao is the face of the franchise. Even if he was a bad player, you should pay him some respect.

I totally agree with you. A healthy TMAC is the and will always be the Key to our success not a healty Yao. Yao is our most efficient offensive player, but TMAC is by far the most dominant.

Lakers would do that trade in a minute.

    Rockets wouldn't

Almost right. T-Mac must be gone too... that guy can't win. Simple as that.

I am being realistic. If you somehow could level up his Defensive to Garnett level I would take him. Everyone is flawed however Yao has height advantage. That you can't take away from him and he has better work ethic than Gasol.

Plus you should fine him for being ugly and not shaving his beard off.

    Neither would.

The Lakers are the title favorite, they aren't trading their 2nd best player away so they can get nothing out of Yao this season.

The Rockets don't want to lose the money Yao brings in.

If Gasol was still in Memphis, this question wouldn't be even asked.
