Any ball handler can initiate the triangle offense. That's one of the strengths of the offense. That's why the offense functions so well when it has forwards and bigs who can dribble and handle the ball, ie Scottie Pippen, Lamar Odom, Toni Kukoc, Pau Gasol, Rick Fox.

I suspect you don't watch much basketball.

Here's some point guards who've won championships in the triangle... BJ Armstrong, Steve Kerr, Randy Brown, Tyronn Lue, Derek Fisher, Brian Shaw, Lindsey Hunter, Ron Harper.

Not a very impressive list of guards I'd say. In fact Chucky Atkins would fit in very nicely on that list.

Good job you also named backup PG. Who at best plays 10-15 minutes. Obviously you don't watch basketball nor read articles on triangle offense. I bet you don't even know they didn't run a pure Triangle system last year.

You must obviously not read the link, go google some more.

Chucky Atkins can't even start, when he left the lakers... you do know it takes a team effort to work the Triangle, yes a big passing man is important but the sheer fact you think getting Derek was pointless. You do know he was with Kobe on those championships.

I wish i can edit. I take back all my posts because it's dumb and pointless to talk anything about Tmac or Yao without being labeled. Please don't respond to this pointless thread.

    Thanks

You're the one talking about how important the point guard position is in the triangle. It's a 48 minute game kid. Which one of those dazzling point guards I listed is noted for his unique ability to "run the Triangle"? Heck some of those guys can't even dribble.

I never said Derek Fisher was pointless, I said he didn't play very well and the Lakers largely won the title in spite of him. The idea that the Lakers needed Fisher to run the triangle is totally bogus. They were trying to get Farmar to take his job all season long.

You do understand in a Triangle it's not about the skillset it's about the knowledge and the willingness to do it.

Jordan has the skillset but he and like many if the PGs you mention like the mindset and knowledge to really make the triangle offense work. Hence why Derek is the starting PG.

I never said Gasol does not have an impact, I am saying in my view he was a bigger factor and it can debateable (sp).

    End of discussion, it's pointless.

    Thanks

The guy - D.Fish is money down the stretch, especially during playoffs. That alone kept him on the court.

Uh, every offense is about skillset, knowledge, and the willingness to run the offense properly. Can you show me a team that has a good offense with poorly skilled, stupid players who won't run the offense properly? LOL You're awesome.

I would in a hot second. Yao can't stay healthy for nothing.

I would make the trade. Gasol doesn't get hurt every year and is a good scorer. If we keep hanging our hopes on such an oft injured player like Yao then we will always be disappointed. If Yao could stay healthy then no but as it stands YES.

Anytime you have an opportunity to trade a perennially injured player for someone who's relatively equal in talent, efficiency, is more agile, versatile, and durable, how do you NOT make that trade if you're objective and worried about winning first!?

Not that any of this matters. Morey could do this deal in a heartbeat and it wouldn't matter. Yao is a cash cow, so Les wouldn't let him go anywhere else, unless Yao demanded it.

It would be nice to see Yao get a ring with the Lakers. He deserves a championship for all the hard work and sacrifice for the sake of his team. I think he could eventually win a championship with the Rockets but he does not deserve all this vitriol from Houston fans.

If Yao goes to the Lakers, they will not win a ring with him. Even Kobe cant carry him to a ring. He would destroy their offense and defense.

This is the lowest of the low for a Clutchfans member. Seriously, you're going to root for the Lakers over the Rockets because you think fans are too critical of Yao Ming?

The guy will have averaged 47 GP over his last 5 seasons at the end of this year. It doesn't matter if he's with the Rockets or the Lakers -- fans aren't going to be happy with a "franchise player" missing that many games.
