Basketball does not work like that. Of course Gasol is statiscally a better player but he's also a big man. He can't bring the ball up.... the positions are not comparable. Fisher is as important an acquisition as Gasol IMO.
And Gasol disappeared more than not in the playoffs whereas Fisher hit big shots. That's clear to everybody.

Don't give me the one season of the championship. He was thrice in the playoffs for Memphis, never won a game for this franchise. He could do nothing against Garnett the year before the championship, could do little against Chuck.

    reg. season career - 18.8ppg, 8.7rpg, 3.2apg, 1.7 bpg, 52% fg
    playoffs career - 18.1ppg, 9.3rpg, 3.1apg, 54% fg

i don't think that's disappearing. he played extremely well in both playoff runs with the lakers. he just struggled v. the celtics (just did all the laker players, including kobe bryant, who shot 37%).

ok. then in crunch time, where No.1 or No. 2 options are supposed to shine.
Fisher is renowned for his clutch shots.
I am not trying to downgrade Gasol just saying what Fisher brings to the team outside of scoring, knowing the system very well and having helped Gasol to adjust.

People are blindly praising player A, not the system and other players who set up player A.

uh, b/c dfish is always open since all the attention is on kobe and pau. that is a tough job to do b/c well, luther couldn't do it.

dfish does provide veteran leadership. but it's dumb to argue that gasol is not the 2nd most impactful player on the lakers. seriously?

let's be realistic. if this trade is brought up, morey would do this trade in a heartbeat if he had the power (les won't do it). the lakers will NOT do this trade.

some of my laker fans saw this thread while i was browsing and they were laughing HARD at the notion. the laker nation would burn kupchak's house down if he did this trade.

I too think he would consider it but won't pull the trigger. Not just because of Les but knowing that it does not matter. Gasol is not the leader to lead the team. We don't have the players in LA where he can be effective. What's the use? Going into the playoffs with Gasol and the other players, losing in Round 1 or perhaps 2?
Might as well go and Garnett who is a defensive beast. We need 2 way players not just offensive talents!! But forget Garnett, he is too old. Morey's system is finding talents under the radar, and neither Garnett nor Gasol are underrated players.

Realistically let Tmac come back and see what is available at trade deadline. Then calculate our chances next year to land a free agent with allstar talent.
I don't know if we will be a contender by then but one thing is for sure with young talents start gelling there is something possible.

If you imagine his earlier days also. He was guarded in the Spurs series when Shaq was on board. He hit it with someone guarding him with 0.6 seconds on the clock.

tmac is not going to net us an all-star. remember, the best deal out there for him (from the reports) was dalembert + change. obviously as the deadline nears, deals will get better. but it's not going to be all-star talent.

unless we get more YOUNG talent, we should just let tracy expire and let him walk. don't resign him.

and we shouldn't resign yao either. he got injured playing 33 minutes a game last year. it's obvious adelman will be advised NOT to play him more than 25-27 minutes. if one of your best player only plays half a game, what's the use?

As I said earlier we have to look at it and have doctors evaluate his condition. Remember Big Z had this surgery and it helped him to be injury free for more than 6 seasons. On the other hand, it could be career ending. Those are 2 extremes and there's nothing inbetween. At least there will be clarity what Houston will be doing in the near future.

If you cost his salary 27 minutes would be enough to keep the paint defended.

Yea because Yao takes the most physical abuse within 33 minutes. Tracy plays soft, avoids contact, and still gets injured a lot. Go figure.

2 things your r****ded to think anybody who defends Yao is a YOF. I mean come on, are you that dumb.

2nd Derek Fisher did have an impact, he knew the triangle offense for over 7 years. You replace Gasol with a another decent PF and run it with Kobe and Fisher it's going to produce results.

You have Gasol and Kobe running it with Jordan Farmer or Chucky Atkins, your going to see worse results because those 2 PG have less experience with the Triangle.

There is a reason they wanted Fisher and why at his age he is still starting.

It can be argued, it's not one sided unless your a fool who just look at Stats.

:) Never mind. Those are ignorant. I mean reality is that nobody offers Gasol for Yao. We might be stuck with him and Tracy for a while. Live with it, y'all.
