Tracy McGrady is not unloyal. He didn't leave anybody high and dry. His first contract expired with Toronto so he signed a free agent contract with Orlando. He was underpaid in Toronto making $2 mill a year. Why is that unloyal? He is very loyal. He stuck with Orlando and carried them for four years while Grant Hill was injured
Just to be clear, I voted yes. However, I'm not the owner of the team and I don't care how much revenue Yao brings the team. If we're just talking player for player, and putting all the business of the NBA aside, this is a no brainer. Kevin Garnett IS one of the top three players in the league. He may be the best player in the league. We only hope that Yao will one day be in that kind of category. Hell, I just hope that one day he's a top 10 player in the league.
Exactly! I enjoy having a center that can do what Yao can do....if there was a way to add a player of KG's ability and still keep Yao...I do it...but I dont want to give up one to get the other... macfan...speak for yourself...you dont speak for me. anyone would do it...yea...judging by the poll results...that doesnt appear to be the case. way to lump us all together troll....now go away unless you got something of substance to add to the discussion.
Yao's so called lack of athleticism is overblown. If there is six positions Yao would be playing the extra one called Center XXL - players who are over 7'3" feet tall. Yao has good athleticism among that group. Saying Yao has zero athleticism is like saying a pf has no athleticism because he's slower than a sf. Besides, Yao can move when challenged, he is not overmatched in speed by most of the centers in the league. Camby is athletic and it's not like he runs circles around Yao. On the contrary, Yao shuts down athletic players like Amare Stoudamire. Yao's pattern of success is much like Duncan's, and to a lesser degree, that of the Magic's. Duncan is in a center's body with good athleticism at pf position playing power forward, having good advantage in height and bulk. Notice I'm not talking about this year's Duncan on bad ankles.Magic is a center, pf, sf ...... with great athleticism at pg playing pg. Yao is a center XXL with enough athleticism at center playing center, having great advantage in height, bulk and size. All three are very or extraordinarily skilled players. They succeed because they are very skilled "tweeners" in a good way - having bigger bodies with enough or more athleticism to play a smaller position, being benefitted in height, bulk, power and size. The same can be said about Garnett but he lacks one ingredient in the department of bulk and power. Yao's potential of dominance is enhanced with the new found pick'n'roll play and lob passes. Those are two major tools to plug the holes in Yao's offense. One being the lack of easy and systematic points. Another being diminished post play effectiveness during fronting. I don't think it's a given that the Wolves wouldn't trade Garnett for Yao. Garnett is a better player than Yao right now but the Wolves haven't done very well in years with him at the throne. First round fodder or not making playoffs with exception to last year defines Garnett's career so far. Garnett lacks power to dominate his opposition. He also doesn't utilize his speed advantage enough. He could've driven past Malone or Madvendenko at any time(whatever the name is spelled) in the playoffs last year but he simply didn't do it enough. With the potential, money and attention Yao brings I think the Wolves would give it some thoughts.
BTW, I can fathom that the reason Phil Jackson wanted the Rockets is because he thinks Yao/McGrady can win a ring together.
One day we'll look back and say what a freaking stupid thread that is. I don't care if KG is better than Yao right now, I won't trade Yao for KG. Reason: 1. Yao + TMac combo is much better than TMac + KG. 2. You don't break up the core of a solid championship-contending team when you clearly can see how high these combo can reach. 3. Yao will definitely get better. I can't say that about KG. (KG is a great player) 4. KG + TMac in the west, San Antonio will have a field day messing with Rockets. People don't realize what a big advantage Rockets has with Yao on the floor even though his number won't show this.
Ok Mr. High and mighty, if your Tha King is your one guy then KG is mine, see I'm no less loyal to Yao than you. I have drooled over KG being a Rocket ever since he joined the league, he is IMO the highest impact player in the league and if he didn't have sulk ass players with him he would have been right in the thick of things again this year, he is a top three player in the league and a freak. He is still young enough to have some (and I'll stop just short of saying many) GREAT years in the league. If this deal is available to me i do it every time and I don't look back and that's nothing against Yao.
i do stand by yao. i like yao alot but the question is would i trade him for an MVP and one of the most versatile and dominant PF's to ever play, yes i would in a heart beat. KG is a much better player and when it is all said and done will be remembered as one of the games all-time greats. yao not even the best player on his own team much less one of the league's top 5 players.
It comes down to this. Is Yao a first tier player? No. Is Garnett a first tier player? Absolutely. Has this trade remotely been discussed? No. Will CD make the call? No. If Minnesota makes that call do we pull the trigger? Absolutely.
I'm surprised how the poll is closely divided. Yao is our future and his weaknesses are experience based. We're selling low and buying high. Besides, Garnet's salary is a cap killer...
It seems like there are two types of people voting on this poll: 1. Those who choose the more skilled player - pick KG 2. Those who choose a player based on potential, salary, impact, and loyalty - pick Yao Seems reasonable depending on your criteria to pick either one. I'm sure if someone made a poll asking who is a better player, even YOF would pick KG.
had clutchfans existed 10 years earlier, there would have been thousands of polls whether we should pick Hakeem before Jordan. It's all about winning, baby.
Hilarious. This poll is now tied. Not only would I do this trade in an instant; if I were the owner, I would fire any GM who rejected it. And 30 of 30 real owners out there would do the same thing, sentiment be damned. If you wouldn't, I've got an "I'm the GM who refused to pair Kevin Garnett with Tracy McGrady" T-shirt to sell you.
Don't be so sure about it. People do stupid things. Remember not long time ago, your beloved CD and Rudy refused to trade Eddie "The shooter" Griffin for Rashard Lewis.
You forgot to ask one guy on this. Will Yao agree? You act like Houston already owns him, which still is not true yet.
I voted no. First of all, it's not going to happen. Rockets probably have to bundle five players to match KG's salary. Except Yao and TMac, who else would they want? Possibility aside, salary aside. Something with KG really bothers me. He's a class act, super talented, a great player in every aspect, but he's just not a winner for me. He's the number one guy on a team, maybe any team except 2 or 3, but he never really made any of his teammate better. TMac clearly did that, and I believe Yao is doing that as well, and he can do more. I guess there is no more room for KG to get even better. He will be still putting MVP like numbers, as usual, his teammates still wouldn't get any help to play at a higher level, with his insance money, and TMac's Max, I guess it's beyond any reasonable possibility, the Rockets can bring in any more quality. Do you guys who voted yes, really think that TMac + KG + Sura + 15 - 20 mins of Deke can win you championships? Remember, KG only passed first round with big help from Spree and Sam, and they didn't get a playoff spot this year with the same group. Of course, if you are talking about TD, then is absolutely different. KG's numbers may be better, but TD is definitely a winner.
This thread is stupid. No way in hell the T-wolves trade 23-14-6-2 young player for a 18-8-.08-2 player. Trade a top 5 player for a top 50 player? Stop all this nonsense. Why not trade M. James for Lebron James??? Please, this crap is stupid.
We all know you would do it in an instant, it's KG we are talking about. In fact, you would do it for much less, as you mentioned before. However, I didn't see any survey out there says that 30 of 30 real owners would do the same thing. In fact, if you say 30 of 30 GMs would do that, it's still far-fetched, but a lot more reasonable. Because the owners still care about the money and market. You need 7, 8 players to play at a relatively high level to win championships. With money tied on KG, who else can you afford? How are you supposed to win? Last time I checked, KG was still putting huge numbers by shooting jumpers, even 3 pointers, how's that making TMac's game easier?
Unless Yao has some kind of special no-trade clause in his contract, he doesn't have to agree. (see Jackson, Jim) But you're missing the point. The point is that no one in the Rockets organization is going to disrespect Yao by putting him on the trading block and openly seek deals for him. They (and we) have too much faith in his future in Houston, and it would be ludicrous to try and trade him at this point in his career, particularly while he seems to be happy. However, if someone comes out of nowhere and makes you an offer you can't refuse, you would be foolish to pass on it. Minnesota offering to trade Kevin Garnett to the Rockets for Yao Ming strait up is an offer that no GM would refuse, nor should they. The title of this thread is not "Do you think the Rockets should pursue a trade with the Timberwolves, sending Yao Ming to Minnesota in exchange for Kevin Garnett?". Rather, it's very simple. "Would you do this trade?" Try to look past the emotion involved. Since this trade is not a remote possibility, it's ridiculous to try and interpolate what CD, Yao, KG, Van Gundy, Minnesota management, or anyone would be thinking leading up to this trade being on the table, because it's not a real trade. It's just a hypothetical question.
