Yeah but you're talking about a literal MVP quality player. Butler is trash compared to Giannis, literal trash, several tiers lower as a player. Giannis is top 3. Alpi or Amen are going to be the MINIMUM cost to get him, we may need to give them both because the rest of what we has doesn't come close to his value.
Agreed and that's the big issue here. Obviously Giannis is much better than Alperen and Amen and current Giannis is likely better than any potential maxed out version of Alperen and Amen. But having to trade Alperen+Amen+picks.. or Alperen+Jabari+Reed+picks (or Amen)... does that really make us a better team? Not just in the future, but also next season? I really don't think it does.
Agreed, that's why I likely wouldn't do a trade in reality. However the thread was "would you trade Sengun for Giannis" and the answer is unequivocally **** YES, because if the Bucks are stupid enough to trade us a literal MVP for a "star" who averages 20 points a game then you do it and hope there's no way they can reverse it later.
If it's basically a 1 for 1 trade like Luka for AD, then yea for sure. But hard to imagine any GM being as r****ded as Nico lol
Tbh if they were stupid enough to take the trade for Sengun and any 1-2 of: Jalen, Cam, Sheppard, Tari then I'd also consider it. We'd still be fleecing them. People out here acting like Giannis is done when he just put up averages of 30/11/6 are crazy. So he's 31? That 31 is better than every single player we have and it's not close, regardless of age. He'll likely be better than them still in 4 years.
I might've missed a particular post. But don't think anyone would argue the equation of Sengun >= Giannis. However, some people, like myself, says no to Giannis. Regardless of who goes away on the exchange. Do you think it's reasonable to have that opinion? Or am I being ignorant? Getting Giannis will deplete our treasury. It won't be cheap. Then, we gonna have to spend more to build a team that is suitable to him. Effectively minimizing the window. He's not on the right side of 30. Also not the plug in & play type fit. You're all in. There is no pivoting in this path. In the meantime, we clearly keep Amen Thompson, who hasn't shown much offensively. Needs massive improvement. How did that go for JG? There is always risk that it won't come into a fruition. Giannis and Amen will have to co-exist - at least for 2-3 years minimum even at the worst case scenario. Dunno man I would keep the treasury for a different move. If anybody who can space/hit middies, 3s becomes available (closer to Giannis' overall level), I'm listening. Ready to deal. Also curious. How do we even get Giannis to say yes to Rockets?
The Rockets don't have the team around Yannis.........the Warriors still do .......the Thunder do.....the Celtics and Cavs sort of do. The Spurs don't but they could put up a Twin Tower and Fox at disposal. You gotta have the shooters first to surround Giannis with.
It was in response to somebody suggesting Sengun was better than Giannis because the Bucks had 3 first round exits back to back. You know, as opposed to 3 didn't even make the playoffs because our star averages 20 points or less.
Not on this team. We don't have shooters. Putting Giannis on the team isn't going to help that. He will still pass the ball out to a wide open guard who will brick it. This is like having a house with a leaky roof and you go and upgrade your windows instead. Yeah it looks nice but the issue is still there.
I don't think anyone thinks Sengun is as good as Giannis. What you aren't factoring in when you look at them is contract and age? I'm sure we could trade Sengun for Giannis but that doesn't really put him in a good situation to win. We would lose our depth and young pieces that help us get to where we are. I don't see this being any better than him in Milwaukee. It just doesn't make sense with our timeline as he is 9 years older than a majority of our core. We don't have a true star to pair with him.
Nah, you're just coming in half way through an exchange without any of the context. That was in response to somebody suggesting Sengun was a better option than Giannis because the Bucks have 3 first round exits. And either way, I actually don't think Sengun will EVER average 30/11/6, Giannis has done it back to back. A dramatically reduced Giannis is still massively more impactful and a better player than Sengun, sorry.
Giannis doesn’t seem the type to demand a trade to a to team that’s seeing/seen recent success(not that Gianni’s seems the type to demand a trade at all). The Rockets are a top seed that are likely out in the 1st round in very disappointing fashion. There’s no shame in demanding a trade to a team like that which is also still very young and has a ton of trade chips for another star to team with. I really don’t think they can hate on him for that and I do think Giannis cares what the fans think of him. Hes a respectful man that wants to be respected. It’s because of the kind of man that he is, that I would love for him to be a Rocket. He may not be the modern Hakeem in game(prob more modern Admiral), but he’s the modern Hakeem in how he carries his super stardom. Not such a good boy like Admiral, but not loud or cocky or insecure or an ******* like so many other stars.
Cosign this part 100% especially. One of the classiest players in the league, I've always liked Giannis the person regardless of Giannis the player.
Short term success.......yes Long term success........no They both give you a points in the paint presence, both require good 3-point shooters all around them to supply spacing, which is a must for them to obtain championship success. Without good 3-point shooters (PLURAL meaning more than just JG4 shooting well) they are just great in the regular season....first round exits in the playoffs. One is just older.
You do Sengun straight up or close to straight up for Giannis 100 out of 100 times. The problem is what do you have left over with the more realistic trade which is Sengun, another core player and 2-3 picks. This team can’t add Giannis to this team without also adding better shooters. If they would take Sengun and 2 picks for Giannis then yes. You could then turnaround and trade Jalen and picks for players that fit better around Giannis. My idea would be John Collins and Trae if Atlanta still wants to get rid of him. Amen, Trae, Dillon, Jabari, Giannis (center by committee on defense). Collins, Tari, Reed, Cam for a bench who all have an outside shot. Even Ime couldn’t screw up the rotations with options like that. Trae and Collins are just examples. With Jalen and 3 more FRP’s available there could be better options like Naz, JJJ, Bane. Lots of teams are going to get desperate after they see how far they are from competing after these playoffs. KD is probably the more practicable option. Again price is the bottom line on any of this. Unfortunately, my guess is that the Rockets extend FVV and Dillon and just run it back and tell everyone to be patient.
The Rockets have plenty of ammunition if they get Giannis to add shooters. More importantly, you don't want to add shooters until you know the offensive engine's position because it would suck to trade assets for a shooter that can't play with the offensive engine. The big thing is that if the Rockets got Giannis, they would have to find a big that can play with him. Shooting at other positions is easier to acquire, I'm guessing Reed and Holiday have more value if Giannis is a Rocket.
If it's a straight swap, of course. But the Bucks will want way more than that including a few of those Suns/Nets/Mavs picks. I'd like to see the Rockets exhibit a little patience. I have a bad feeling Ime will push for a big trade because he seems to favor vets over young guys, but Stone needs to tweak the roster, not give it an overhaul. The only major moves I think are necessary are with the backcourt. Fred needs to go and it's likely time to move on from Jalen. But first let's see where that Suns pick winds up. If we luck out and it's in the top 4, a major trade may not even be necessary in order to bolster this roster.
