He was released, he said in his twitter page that he is still waiting for some offers, His agent told argentinean newspaper that he is talking to Boston and Sacramento and that he already declined a Wizards offer. Oberto himself said that he wants a place where he likes to be over money, so that would be an advantage to us, Sacramento is in the list mainly because they have Nocioni and we would be in a similar position by having Scola. The money shouldn´t be a problem, i think the vet min or the LLE would do it, whatever is the less, i think the most important thing is how we approach him. We will lose any chance if he gets the feeling that he is only being pursued because we had no option rather if Morey or anyone makes him feel that they find usefull the fact that he played in the Spurs and value what he can bring.
Seth - many thanks for all of the info on Oberto. I think that he'd be a very nice fit in this Rockets squad and I'm glad to know that he's available if we play our cards right.
You can ask him almost anything by twitter, his username is Obricio7 and he usually answers all questions if are well written. Responds both english and spanish. He is not going to tell you "i am going to" because that is classified, but if you ask him about Houston, if he likes the are, or if he would like to play with Scola, i am sure he will answer.
This kind of post makes me want to not read these "Would you..." threads. I wouldn't even do Scola for Przybilla. If we got a real cornerstone like some of the others have said, I would do it. But there's no way we're going to see that. No way. Scola is a keeper.
For the right deal. A deal that involves a star center or big boost to the front court. If not keep him. He is the most reliable low post threat the team has as of the moment.
the question isn't whether Scola is valuable or not. simply if we'd trade him if the right deal comes along. in our situation anything possible.
Reality check: Scola is currently our best player. He's cheap and consistent. You only trade him in a no-brainer type scenario.
I think even Morey said recently that Scola was our MVP of last season. His baseline jumper off the pick and roll consistently started to fall last season, he's a great rebounder for his size, can score with his back to the basket consistently, and has a tremendous amount of hustle and grit. I absolutely love his game and would expect an absolute all-star back if he were ever included in a deal.
I agree with everyone that Scola is cheap, good and a leader on this squad but my concerns are as follows: • Ok so he is cheap but for how long? He is due for a nice pay increase but remember everyone is clearing cap space and most teams won’t get that star player so they will focus on guys like Scola. Not only will a lot of teams have their MLE but also the money they would have used on a tier 1 player that can be used on Tier 2 players like Scola. I believe Scola will command between 8-9 million and it only takes one team for that total to increase considerably. • Scola is darn good right and our best player but he is 30 this season and if EVERYTHING falls perfectly next offseason he will be 31 but consider this…We will need a high draft pick, be able to acquire a top free agent and hope Yao comes back healthy. Those are 3 huge ifs and also consider the first scenario will increase his salary and might take us out of the top free agent bonanza. • He also is a leader along with Battier but a leader on a 40-45 win team? Unless we make a big move, which is look more unlikely by each passing day, he will basically be helping us get a low lottery pick or a first round boot again. He is a great leader which is why his value is so great right now and we may be able to swindle a good team of its top young talent. Over all, I think he will stay but considering the options above it may be something Morey considers at the trade deadline, like another poster noted, and at that time we may have a better understanding of where are season is going. Again I don’t want to see him go but it might, just might, be better for the team in the long run.
I'm a Rockets fan 1st and foremost, so no matter who the player is, if it puts us in the direction we are wanting to go, I am all for it.
I don't think anyone will offer scola 8m on the open market. He is a mle to 6m type of guy. If lebron, wade, anthony, and bosh are level 1 and boozer, rip,joe johnson are level 2, that makes scola level 3.
