You know but honestly Lowrys PER is almost identical to Melos and Sammys is higher then Chandlers. However, their combined salaries are 18,000,000 less.... PER YEAR... In regards to moneyball, its kinda hard to justify trading lowry straight up for melo or sammy straight up for chandler.
Actually Scola/Dragic/ (any of twill, bud, hill would work) for Pau Makes the most sense a 3 man front of Lowry, Pau, and Sammy... is actually right along side the PER values of any top teams players aside from miami.
And Lowry plays defense. And isnt a ballstopper. And is younger. And is still improving. Has higher bball iq. I think that covers it
The better question is, would the Knicks trade Melo+ for Lowry? Melo is fool's gold. He's a "star" player that will never make his team better. You can't win in the playoffs with him as your best player, especially when he's making the max. He's an awful ball handler, doesn't play a lick of defense, and knows only to chuck the ball.
Its funny that in a matter of a year there is already grumblings that Melo should be shipped. I wonder how much LaLa is enjoying all the extra attention Melo is getting in the "big media market".
I'm confused now.. Do you guys want a 'star' or not? As much as I love Lowry and would hate to see him go.. I'd take Melo in a quick second.
Melo is a "star" in the same sense that Vince Carter, Antoine Walker, Stephon Marbury, and post-Sixers Allen Iverson were "stars". You could put one of those guys on an awful team, and they might get you an 8th seed and a sweep because there is no one else who can score. But on a team with real NBA starters, they're nothing more than a black hole. Trading Lowry for Melo would be a lateral move at best, but a burden to our roster flexibility. Also, Lowry makes $6 million. Melo makes $18 million. With that $12 million difference, you could get a player much better than Melo and put him next to Lowry.
I'm a HUGE Melo fan, but I really like Lowry's game a lot. I'd trade everyone not named Lowry for Melo. Lowry+ for Melo?...(???)...maybe'ish.
Carmelo is averaging 24/7/4 in an off year. The problem is that the rest of team is playing like garbage without a PG and Melo is playing 1 on 3 most of the time. Amare is averaging 18 points a game while shooting 43 percent. That's freaking terrible for 4 making max money. As long as we don't give up everything like NY did for Melo, I would do it. I would give up Lowry plus one rotation player and no draft picks.
((((HELL NO))))) You can't trade Lowry because you can't get equal value! Cliche I know, but it isn't just a matter of trading Lowry for Melo straight up because the salaries don't match. Lowry's production far exceeds his paycheck, more so than most other players in the NBA. You'd have to damn near add Scola and Martin just to make the salaries match. Now you have the same problem New York has. Melo paired with role players and scrubs. I'd say Durant and maybe, maybe DWade are the only max players I would gut the team for because they are the only players in the league that can carry role players.
christ, no. i'm surprised to see how much some of you guys simply fawn over just the label "superstar".
DD this is a little more than crazy talk right..Llow for Melo... But Morey would be forced to make that trade for Melo. Would that be a straight up trade????? all in all....STOP IT PEOPLE! zzpot
