Can't believe this thread was ever made. As if Portland would ever look at this offer even a season ago. Even throwing in Parsons wouldn't be enough.
I like both players. Lillard has been given an ideal situation to develop - no other ball dominant players, no one challening for the job and the freedom to make mistakes. He's a low 40% shooter and was so last year. Doubt he would get as many minutes or as long a leash in Houston as he does in Portland. Btw, despite shooting in the low 40's, Lillard leads and offense that is scoring 109 pts a game, tops in the league. Food for thought.
Lillard's shooting overall is good... 43% 3's and 90% FTs. He also has a 2.5/1 asst/to ratio. All 3 of those stats are better than both our PGs. His leash in Houston would be the same as POR.
This is the dumbest post bump ever since this topic is entirely irrelevant, but this post right here is an example of everything that sucks about Lin (but not Rockets) fans. You're sitting there with a straight face and saying that Lin is comparable to Lillard, but isn't as good only because he doesn't have freedom and McHale and the fans are holding him back?
Both have done the same thing hit big shots knock down threes etc. Lillard is a chucker and he has the right to do so in Portland. When both were able to do what they want what happened ? Both were all over the media & both made the rookie-sophomore team. When they go up head to head they were even so far, go back and watch all of the games. I can only go off of what I've saw. Is Lillard playing better than Lin right now YES but like I've said they're in two different situations. So can you sit sit there with a straight face and say they are ? And don't come on here with that lame LOF stuff because someone pushed your buttons. I've sure I've been a rocket fan longer than you and spent way more money than you have on the rockets. Don't make me go into details but I will if u want to know.
Lillard is a 44% 3-point shooter, 90% from the line, and commits very few turnovers. He also has a knack for clutch plays. I won't dispute that they are in different situations and Lin could be much more successful on a different team. But in terms of shooting the ball and taking care of the ball, its hard to argue that there isn't a significant difference between the two. Does Lin's particular skills, even in an ideal situation, offset this? I'm not so sure about that.
The premise of the OP is flawed in that if we undid Morey's "mistake" and traded Lowry in order to draft Lillard then we would not have Harden and then in turn not have Howard. So doing that is the equivalent of trading Lin, Harden, and Howard for Lillard. Of course none of the pieces to Morey's plan had fallen into place at the time of this post, but once the opportunity presented itself he sure as hell executed it.
I have the straightest face I've ever had when I say this: Damian Lillard is far, far and away a better basketball player than Jeremy Lin. In any situation. And lol at your last paragraph.
Yes you're right ! Lillard takes care of the ball way better than Lin. Lin makes the dumbest turnovers sometimes especially the jumping in the air with no where to go. Lillard doesn't do that. Lillard still averages 2.7 turnovers Lin 2.6. Lillard is also clutch with hitting big shots. So that's why I would give the edge to Lillard now about those stats, most of Lin 3s are bail out threes late in shot clock, not trying to make any excuses but I'm sure you watch the games just like me and see this. I watch Lillard he shoots 7 3s per game most are usually pull up 3s are wide open ones off ball movement, he can shoot 1-6 2-7 and it's cool. Lin can't do that here. Lillard shoots better free throws. Lillard is better I will give that to him, but it's totally different when one guy actually has a green light all game and really plays PG. If you want to compare Lillard to someone it would be harden. Lillard shoots 17 shots per game Lin shoots 9
And FYI I'm the guy that wants rondo here more than anyone. I've posted videos and went to war over the him and harden can't work stuff. By stating how he can be a better perimeter defender, pass first pg, bring tuff ness to our team that we really need that some call him a "locker room cancer " I say we need that we're to friendly. I like Lin but at the end if the day his game doesn't fit in Houston with our offense ran through harden & he doesn't fit with Mchale. he is wasting money off of our cap they we could spend elsewhere. If we are really going to make a championship run.
