After watching Jason Terry trick Chuck Hayes into fouling him with 1 second left in regulation and then seeing him smoke us in OT, I got to thinking how the Rockets would fair if we could pull off a Kevin Martin for Jason Terry trade, straight up. Statistics: K-Mart: 23.4 pts 2.5 asts 1.0 stl J Terrry: 15.8 pts 4.1 asts 1.1 stl Statistically the trade doesn't look to make sense, but... 1) Yes Terry scores less, but he also scores 16 ppg on a team that is stacked with go-to scorers. 2) Terry can truly "create" his own shot against a defender vs. K-Mart depends on good looks from beyond the arc, and the refs blowing their whistles (which can be VERY inconsistent from game to game as well as in the 4Q) 3) Terry is a solid one-on-one defender who also plays intelligent team defense (similar to Chuck Hayes), vs. Martin who is a sub-par one-on-one defender and very poor team defender 4) Terry has the intangible/immeasurable will to win, which all of us have seen from his clutch performances in the 4th quarter and the energy he plays with all game long. Half the season, RA didn't even play K-Mart in the closing minutes of games! I think that if Terry was on our team this season vs. K-Mart, we would have won many of the games that we so narrowly lost and would currently be prepping for game 1 of the playoffs. This week, Kevin Garnett spoke about "statistics" and said the following, "You can be 100 percent (FG%), but it doesn't tell me if you've got guts or not, if you have heart or not, or if you're going to quit on me. I'm not into that."
Exactly what we need. Get smaller. And Jason Terry's guts work so well that the Mavs were 2-7 during Dirk's absence.
Dirk is the #1 option and Terry is #2. The team is not stacked with go-to scorers. Which is why the Mavs will fail in the playoffs again this year.
I really should just say gtfo and leave it at that, but I'll just ask one question to confirm that yes, you are indeed a complete moron: Who are the multiple go-to scorers on the Mavs again? There's Dirk, and....................................................................................
If you'll notice my userID I hate the Mavs. Mostly because I now live in Dallas and must endure the constant absurdity of mavs fandome here. With that said, I've had to watch my fair share of mavs games and listen to more than my share of mavs radio. If we traded kevin straight up for JET, mavs fans would never let me hear the end of it hear how we got @#$!&*. Most of my friends would trade Jet for someone like courtney lee + a pick. A few of my friends might trade him for a bag of basket balls. Jet here in Dallas = aaron brooks when he was in houston... pains me to even think of jet on the rockets......
