If we had a franchise QB we could be 2-2 like the Falcons.

The Texans had a chance to sign Manning as a FA. They could have had Manning on offense and JJ Watt on defense, for what that is worth.

Yup, we might have gotten to gut our team to fit the 20 million dollar price tag in order to lose in the playoffs with a different QB for a few years before completely rebuilding with less of a team. It would have been awesome.

    Such flawed logic.

There's seemingly a next "franchise QB" available every year... and some even are serviceable for the duration of their rookie contracts... but there hasn't been a force like Watt in the NFL since LT.

Yes, ultimately you need a QB to win... just saying that there's more of those out there that can win games. Sure, the super-special ones like P. Manning are hard to find... but Matt Ryan (and pretty much every other QB playing now) aren't the "super special" ones.

Yeah, as a fan of Houston sports I would hate to have a couple AFC championships, and a super bowl appearance or two . Come on bobby. Peyton gives almost any team a chance to win the whole thing, and it'd be stupid for any GM to avoid him if they thought he could give you 3-4 years of elite level play.

Would you trade Watt for Luck would have been a much better question. I wouldnt but it would tempt you a bit.

I am probably gonna get flamed for this...

But since we have a guy like Clowney as well, I'd probably do that deal. Luck is the next great QB. Watt is the best player in the NFL, and I don't really think that's much of a debate at this point outside of maybe Calvin Johnson, but a QB is just so much more important than a defensive end.

Uhhhhhh we could offer the Colts Watt, Clowney, Arian, Andre, DeAndre, and our 1st round pick for Luck and they would laugh their ass off and hang up on Rick.

I would not trade JJ for Matt Ryan.

Beside last year and 2011, our defense sucks even with JJ Watt

I love Watt…and he's the best player in football…but he just can't come close to impacting a game as much as an above average QB.

I think the last couple of years has shown that no matter what Watt does on the field, the team is useless without a QB.

Absolutely. If we don't get rid of Rick Smith and have a new GM draft us a QB in the first round this year, we'll be well on our way to wasting JJ's career just like we did with Andre.

    Similar situation with Texans.

If the Texans had an above average QB no one would entertain this

And no matter what Matt Ryan does on the field, their team is useless without other impact players.

Yes, but I'd easily take the Texans team, minus the injuries, over the Falcons. The talent level really isn't that close, as Houston has much more that Atlanta…we're just really banged up right now and have no QB.

Ryan with a healthy Texans team is better than Watt with a healthy Texans team.
