If it's my choice, I prefer not to. Okafur is a risk because of his health like many have mentioned. Also why trade Steve now that he is coming around and playing his role exceptionally well?

    In terms of value, yes.

It should be much easier to pry Howard away from Orlando than to trade for whichever high pick it takes to get Okafor.

Howard is better than any pf we have now, and would probly be a better fit than okafor as well.

Exactly! WTF would we do with Hill? We don't need to trade for guys who can't play - we have CD who can go out and draft them for us.

    Francis/Cato for Hill/Howard/Lue/Okafor?

The other side have no one that may accept . Francis/Cato for Hill/Lue/Okafor is finer, if can reach , has already picked up the leather wallet. Why is there Okafor to also want Howard? ? If because Howard makes the trade unable to reach , but try to save a little only to lose a lot£¿£¿

It's always dangerous to trade for a draft pick. You never know how much potential a player has will ever develop. Rarely is the first pick the best player in the draft. Teams with good talent evaluators end up with quality picks. That does not include Houston. If the Rockets are going to trade for draft picks first hire someone new to do the draft analysis.

Personnaly when I see Okafor play he reminds me of Marcus Camby. He may not develop into that caliber of player but he could become the next duncan. You never know.

Quite frankly I am not confident the Rockets would even take Ok with the first pick. They thought, alledgedly, that Eddie Griffin should have been a number one pick. I'm not even sure I would take him number 1. But the person I would go after is not the bust the Rockets would take.

And I really think in this year's draft the number 6 pick could be as valuable as the number 1 but at a much lower cost.

Not knowing much about Okafor, this would be my fear. As much as some say that Francis and Yao don't complement one another in the offensive set, I think we'd have a bigger problem with 2 post-players -- a la Barkley/Olajuwon. I don't think I want a dominant, headlining power forward. I want a workhorse guy who can grab boards and play some strong defense but with enough offensive capability that he can hit an occasional short jumper. If Cato could shoot, we wouldn't need to get anyone else.

Juan, Okafor is "a workhorse guy who can grab boards and play some strong defense but with enough offensive capability that he can hit an occasional short jumper."

I dont see Okafor being a PF that is going to be a centerpiece for scoring, "dominant, headlining power forward". He is a complementary player.

A few things that we can deduce from the rumors that were going around at the trade deadline, and from JVG comments over the season:

We're looking for cap space. (Who isn't? But we were trying to swap Mo for an expiring contract, so that should say something.)

We're looking for shooters. We're looking for size at the 3, given the fact that we get mugged at that spot.

It's an interesting trade proposal. As Clutch posted not long ago, so much depends on which teams draft where.

If Charlotte gets the #1 overall, you can call them to see if they'd want Steve for the pick. If yes, you could, say, draft Okafor and keep him or shop him (he'd fetch us a good player). Depending on the scenario, we'd also have a nice trade exception or two to use.

And I would look into acquiring Hedeyet Turkoglu with the midlevel, if San Antonio has to let him go (meaning they need money for Manu and maybe Kobe, should he choose to move there).

FYI, the Bobcats CANT get the #1 pick this year. They are locked into the #4 pick, right after the lottery of the top 3.

Hill has too many question about him and even if he comes back he wont be the same super versatile grant hill of the mid 90s. If you guys felt francis was bad at the point lue is even worse i seen his cause a lot of really bad turnovers and make even worse decisions than francis. Howard isnt that bad but his ability to play D may be questioned. Okafor who I love also has a lot of questions because of his back injury, back injuries never leave a player and they do limit him from playing at full potential. I dont believe its something that will hurt Emeka in his first few seasons in the league but the man is a bit undersized for the nba. I think he may end up like a Malik Rose type player, does all the dirty work can score a few points off the bench, the type of player every team will want, but wont be on any all star lists. I just dont like this trade period I think we are too quick to pull the trigger on Francis just yet. I want till the end of next season to make a decision, let him have a full year + playoff exp under JVG and an offseason to see what he will do to help the team. I expect Steve will be fine next season people just too damn impatient with anything now, trading away players doesnt always help. look at dallas and the blazers of the late 90s beggining years of 2000s lots of talent but have nothing to show for it despite all the major trades they've made. I want both steve and yao to retire as rockets and with rings

After having seen Okafor's performance in the Championship game & the games leading up to it, I thought I'd bring this thread up again. Would you make this trade for the chance to get Okafor?

P.S. For those that didn't read the original post, Hill is in the deal because Orlando wants to dump his dead salary slot. Not, because I think he'll suddenly get healthy & start playing again. IMO, Hill will never play in the NBA again. He's just riding it out until his contract expires.

The plum in this trade for the Rockets, is Okafor & to a lesser extent, Howard/Lue & Hill's soon to be expiring contract, not Grant Hill the player.

Was anyone else impressed with Okafor's ability to step up for the big game?

How bout we trade our co-rookie of the year and scraps for picks that lead to two 7 foot high schoolers? Then you can balloon to 300 pounds and proclaim yourself creator of a dynasty.
