Report: Bonzi offer on the table

Bill Ingram is reporting Bonzi Wells is on the way out in Houston and the Rockets have a standing offer to the Pistons.

January 18, Hoops World: The Rockets don't need a starting center. They need a solid back-up who can fill the void while the team waits for Yao Ming to return from his knee injury. Mutombo is playing outstanding basketball, but what would happen if he were to get hurt while putting more than 30 minutes per night on a 40-year-old body? The way the Rockets have struggled with injuries over the last few seasons they would do well to bring in another reserve who could start in a pinch.

The Pistons are considering some other deals, but the Rockets have reportedly made it clear that a Nazr-for-Bonzi deal is ready and waiting.

I guess Wells is on his way out...

Is anybody but Bonzi sure that he's not trying to get one last contract so that he can coast into retirement? I know that's harsh, but he doesn't look like he's trying very hard right now.

No I would not. we still should expect Bonzi Wells to play a significant role in our game plan.
On the other hand if we are thinking of the future and if he isn't paid too much we should get him as a the replacement for Mutombo next season. Problem is JVg dosen't think or coach for the future!

After watching Josh Howard, Jerry Stackhouse and Devin George grab almost every rebound and loose ball a few nights ago. I would opt to not trade Bonzi.

It may not be, but please expound.

BTW, it's too bad you have an "s" on the end of your moniker. One of favorite Rockets of all time was the Pocket Rocket -- Calvin Murphy.

JVG wouldn't play Larry Bird if he didn't practice hard. His biggest flaw as a coach is his stubbornness. If the Rockets are going to win a title anytime soon Bonzi will have to have a large role on this team. I don't see JVG changing anytime soon. :(

    wth??

    hell no..

I wouldn't trade Bonzi for a scrub like Nazr.. the guy is absolutely overrated and he cant help us at all. we already got a center in Yao Ming and a dependable back up center in Deke..why would we bring in an enormously big guy. even if we play him at the 4, it wont work. we already have Yao down low jamming the lane, if we bring in Nazr, we would get called for 3 sec violation on every freakin position..

we need a 4 that can shoot or rebound but not "dependable" in scoring. something like a bigger Chuck Hayes, (yeah, u got it, David Lee)..

Do not quote Bill Ingram, please. The next time he will "report" a legit rumor he did not read here and not understand it correctly will be the first.

well, I stopped reading after I read the name "Bill Ingram" followed by the word "reports". u know who this guy is, right? and this hoopsworld website is full of B.S and I think it has been banned by clutch (not sure though)..

but out of curiosity, I stopped ROFL and continued reading, just to see where this is going.. again, I got a good laught at "what would happen if he were to get hurt while putting 30 minutes per night on a 40 year old body?"..what the heck is he thinking?? what is he talking about? WHAT IF?? is he serious?

so we trade a great player who proved to be huge in the playoffs for a random "backup center" just in case the "what if" thing happens. very smart..

but what's amazing is the fact that people are going "hell yeah, we can trade Bonz and Novak or Bonz and Rafe for him!!!".. are u freakin serious??

    Bonzi for an inknown commodity??

    BRILLIANT!!

The incredibly sad thing about Bill Ingram is that despite all the supposed rumors he's posted over the years I don't believe he has nailed ONE.

Conjecture is too strong word for what he does.

I do like how Hoopsworld posted this rumor with a different guy but credited it to Ingram. Almost as if to give it more credibility had someone other than Bill posted it himself. Bill heard the same two-week-old thing that TNT tossed out there.

It looks like Golden State is talking to Detroit now about Nazr, anyway. Thank god.

    I agree.

I know Philly wants to suck hard in order to start rebuilding. A 3-way for Andre Miller didn't garner much interest when I first mentioned it. Don't know why not. He can't shoot 3s but Luther and Shane can (assuming Rafer would go in any trade to get the guy).

We do need backup center help, though, ain't no doubt.

Bonzi for Antonio McDyess maybe, but not for Nazr. With Mohammed not only would we be taking on a guy who could really only play when Yao is on the bench, but we'd manage to pick up a bad contract. 10-15 min. a game is definitely not worth his contract and plus, have you seen him play?
