Ben Gordon isn't as good as he thinks he is. but he's better than battier off the bench. as long as gordon's playing against the opponent's 2nd team, i'd do the trade. but he's not worth what he'll be looking for.
Very good argument. I think we need more length in our frontcourt, even if we resign both Landry and Deke.
I would do it because gordan brings an aspect of the game that no one else on the rockets has...he can fill it up with his jumper... We have another stopper with artest. I wouldnt trade battier for someone like kirk Heinrich cause what kirk does we already have in skip (kirk may do it better but not by much)... Gorden brings something that no one else on this squad has instant offense... we were supposed to get it from mike james but he was a bust...No way is ben a bust.
We don't need a fourth big scorer, we have 3 and scola is a very efficient scorer himself, if anything we need that 5th player on the floor with those to be like jason kidd or ridnour on the offensive end of the floor
If the trade goes down and Artest leaves next summer and Gordon is on the roster instead of Battier I still think Houston is better off. Battier is a nice team defender and a heck of an individual defender due to his relentless "grind them down" effort but hard working, average offensive SF are not hard to come by. I'm not saying you wouldn't lose something at the position but the void would be minimal and certainly worth gaining an offensive machine in the process. Now best case scenario, Artest stays and we have Gordon come off the bench; Houston still wins. You now have another scorer off the bench and more minutes for Artest. I'm not sold on Ron Ron being the answer to this team's offensive droughts anyway so I would rather keep adding offense at the expense of defense from a position this team is stacked at.
1. Gordon wants more than 8 million. 2. If you sign Artest, consider the ramifications of having 4 guys on the team makng over 10 million per. Not gonna happen. You would be putting yourself in a situation like the Nuggets and Suns where you just have to give away players and draft picks with nothing in return. 3. The Bulls wouldn't also include TT in that deal. 4. Along with the addition of Artest, there can be such a thing as having too much. Look at PHX from a few years ago with Joe Johnson and Marion. They didn't like taking a backseat to Nash and Stoudamire. There is only one ball. You are just asking for chemistry problems putting together a team like that. If Yao is healthy, there just isn't any need to add another prolific scorer to this roster. Now on NBA 2K9, that team would be awesome, but in real life, I think I would pass.
NO i would not trade Battier for Gordon because defense WINS game!! Plus Battier is a hell of a shooter from downtown which is what the doctor order playing along side Yao and Tmac....they need someone to pay for doubling Yao or Tmac. In fact, i think Battier is the best shooter in the entire Rockets roster from outside!! He's the most consistent, most clutch....he's PERFECT complement of Yao and Tmac imo. The only downside to his game is he can't create his own shot and he doesn't attack the basket..which is fine because Artest is starting the game.
I think if we can do a 3 team trade and get a big for trading battier and Gordon going to a team needing a 2 that would be great but no team comes to mind that has a bad 2 and a decent big
I read where Gordon said he should be the highest paid player on the team because he scored the most points. I prefer team players.
Tmac doesn't fill it up with his jumper? He doesn't have the range from 3 Gordon has but we have guys like Battier, Barry and Head that can light up the 3 point line.
I would do it in a heart beat, not for Gordon but for Tyrus Thomas. Then we trade Gordon's trigger happy butt for a decent PG.
I might consider this trade but Chicago def. would not. As I see it, its like saying to Chicago, "Here is our trash, we'll take your treasure." Not that Battier is trash but those other two kinda are. You know, kinda just like roster fillers. And no way they give up Thomas. And we have no money to just dish out to Gordon. Sorry to say, I just dont think this trade happens...ever.
Hmmmm......, interesting responses. Most of you have valid arguments for your positions. First off, let me say, I'm not for trading Battier, but he's the only player we might be willing to part with that has any true value to get a player like Gordon. On the other hand, I brought this question up because I see where he could fill a bigger need coming off the bench than Battier would. With Artest, T-Mac, & Yao on the floor we have a pretty good defensive team. Alston's not a bad defender himself & Scola hustles all over the floor. When we look at our bench (which is where Battier will be coming from), we've got Mutombo (as soon as they sign him), Landry (see Mutombo), & Dorsey. We all know what Mutombo can do & I believe that Landry has the potential to develop into a Posey type of defender by disrupting the passing lanes & getting rebounds. Dorsey is still a wild card, but only because he hasn't played a real game yet. All reports indicate that he'll bring a strong defensive game long before his offensive game fully develops. Now, here's my reason why I believe Gordon might be more valuable to us than Battier. Our "Big 3" have all proven to be injury prone throughout their careers (Yao in just the last 3 years). In all likelyhood, one of them will go down for a significant number of games this year & it's a very good possibility that we could have 2 of them out at the same time. Since they will be at the core of our offensive game, that could be very detrimental to our playoff hopes, or at least our playoff seeding. Looking at our bench & IL (Barry, Battier, Brooks, Mutombo, Landry, Hayes, Dorsey, Francis, Head, ???), who on there do you see stepping up to fill the offensive void left by losing one of the "Big 3", let alone two of them? Gordon could fill that void better than Battier.
