I'd definitely take him but our means to acquire him are extremely limited. Even if you're one of those "let Wafer walk, use the MLE on a backup C" guys, it's still extremely foolish to think Okur passes on $9M to take $5-6M with us. To come off the bench, no less.
Wow . . . just . . . wow. I guess Mehmet knows that his skills are declining and wants to lock in a long-term deal right away instead of wait until next summer and risk not getting nearly as much over the next 4-5 years. The thing about this that really pisses me off is that Okur has essentially enabled the Jazz to avoid a very precarious salary cap situation. Both Boozer and Okur have player options for next year that would pay them very high salaries. Okur had previously said that he would NOT opt out. Boozer has been switching back and forth. Meanwhile, Paul Millsap is a restricted free agent and is set to get PAID. The Jazz will be hard-pressed to be able to afford to pay Boozer, Okur and Millsap next year, especially with Deron Williams's big extension kicking in this July. Okur opting out may have saved the Jazz from having to choose and will let them re-sign Millsap. I was seriously hoping that both Okur and Boozer would not opt out. The Pistons could outbid the Jazz for Millsap this summer, then the Jazz would possibly lose one or both of Boozer and Okur next summer. Damn. So close. Screw you, Mehmet.
Okur opting out only helps us. The Jazz lose a good player that executes their system very well. It is doubtful that Boozer will be in Utah long term as their is bad blood and Boozer wants to get paid. Millsap was always the guy they would pay. All this does for Utah is meaning they lost the services of Okur for next season at a reasonble deal, also his expiring contract would have possible allowed the Jazz to have a trade piece at the deadline. This is good news, a healthy Rockets team should be ahead of Utah again
That's one way of looking at it. But Utah would be hard-pressed to be able to afford to keep all three of Millsap, Boozer and Okur. You're right that Millsap is the one they want to keep long-term. Even if Okur was an expiring contract, they would only be able to afford to trade him to a team under the salary cap (Memphis?), since Utah would not want to take on another team's salaries. Even if they got back other expiring contracts, those 2009-10 salaries will cost the Jazz a bunch in luxury tax. With Boozer, Millsap, Koufos and Fesenko on the roster for next season, the Jazz would be fine next year without Okur. Mehmet did the Jazz a favor.
The are more players I'd rather have *cough* Sheed *cough* Amare, but if nothing else becomes available and he isn't asking for a ridiculous contract, I'd say yes. A big guy who can shoot the three and we MUST have more big bodies on this team.
I didnt read anybody post but sorry i hate the jazz to much to allow any of them except derron williams, hes just a freakin beast, into a rockets uniform
1. He's not that good against us. 2. Yao guards Boozer, not Okur. 3. Hayes did a hell of a job shutting Okur down.
Only person I'd consider from Utah is Boozer (or DWills if he comes cheap). Okur plays poor defense, is not meant for low post basketball, and is a notorious flopper. We need a rebounder and shot blocker.
God no. I would seriously boycott the Rockets if they were to pick up any of the following guys: Deron Williams Jason Terry Kendrick Perkins Derek Fisher Kevin Garnett Ray Allen
Yes. There are way too many threads asking 'Will you take __.' Yes, I know, I started one about Kaman. I guess a better question would be "Who Wouldn't you Take for a Backup Center?" Lol. As of now, I would take almost anyone 6'11" (or 6'10" with some ups) and taller.
You do know he missed playoff games this year correct? Also, hell to the no on any Jazz players in Rocket red.
You say that now, but Utah has some very talented players. If Dwill, Boozer, Ak47, Okur, Brewer come to the Rockets, it's hard to object to that. I'd take anybody that's an upgrade over our current Rockets.
